I'm not sure what you're using but I use moon animator
I use two versions of the same character one with the hat attached and one without it then say when the character throws the hat I
Pose the last keyframe so both rigs match exactly.
Swap to the version without the hat connected.
animate the hat separately as it's own object.
when the throw is done I swap back to the rig with the hat attached so it appears back on the head.
Also place the keyframes as close to each other as possible for the swap so it looks instant there is probably easier ways to do this but this works for me
