Idk if I should follow the team building what the game recommends you if anyone can help I’d appreciate it.

The in-game team recommendations can be pretty far from what an actual effecient line-up is. I would recommend using SWGOH.GG "Gac" tab for Counters or general defenses.

I have none of the teams unlocked in the post you pinged me to all I’m using is the light team and a few dark unlocked

First thing first for a brand new account is to start working on your Anniversary Quests.

They will provide you with FREE gear 13 toons. These are the teams you can make out of them

They also cover Majority of your Assault Battles.

If your brand brand new, like fr 7k GP. I would recommend watching a few videos on the game

To unlock characters I need to grind the campaign to unlock them?

Yeah you have to grind but folks have posted videos on strats to make the grind easier
