#What's your general rule when building a team?

SWGOH profile for reference: https://swgoh.gg/p/613955423/characters/

I just unlocked GAS and I already got excited to start working on Executor. I love taking on journeys because it gives me a sense of a milestone but I find myself lacking the motivation to build the team around the journey character.

Whenever you unlock a new character, how far do you build the team around it?

While working on GAS, I was getting a pretty decent GG team. Now, my B1 is only 1 kyro away from relic and I don't really want to take him there anymore.

Do you just take a break and work on the current teams that you do have? If you look at my roster, I have a lot of squads that are missing relics (JKR with no relic Bastilla, Fives is the only relic 501, CLS sitting on G12, BH with missing relics, GG with missing relics, etc).

I'm thinking of taking a break and working on my current squads.

I always look at the necessary relics to make the team usable for the purpose I want. For GAS. I initially just took him to r5 and rest to r1. Then I joined CPit guild, so all to r5. Then I joined a LSGeo TB guild, so I brought them all to around LV requirement level. All about how your teams are performing, and if you want better for them, or r ok with their current productivity.

For your roster specifically, I would:
1.) Gear your GAS 501st team to at least r3-r5 to make use of datacrons. Gas maybe go to r7
2.) Bring GG up to g13. He is a beast even at just r0, and can serve as a great tool for your disposal in early game GAC

From experience…if you don’t do it at the time, you’ll never do it

#

There are so many projects…GLs ships journey guides. And unless you’re paying money you’ll never keep pace.

#

Best to finish a team while you’re on it

#

But keep in mind that everyone at r7 isn’t really required

#

For example…GG can’t counter every other team. So how good does he need to be to counter the teams you’re actually going to use him against

Great points. GAC is another reason why I want to work on my current roster.

My reason for wanting to work on Executor is fleet arena. Currently, there's only 6 executors in my shard. I'm hovering inside top 10 with my negotiator but I'm afraid I won't be able to compete without an executor in the next few months.

I agree with Monke and zip

take your teams up to the level they need in order to be usable for what you are using them for. for example, GG doesn’t need to necessarily be r7 for the counters you will use him for. GAS will go on defense (i’m assuming?) so you want him thicc as possible, so if you aren’t squeezed for mats i’d say take him to r7. def relic all of the 501 team tho, and with how close you are to b1 go ahead and finish him off.

It’s hard to be too prescriptive. Things vary depending on where you’re at in the game. Some teams just need high relics, at least R5, like GAS. Other teams only require one high relic. R7 Grevious with trash droids can do a lot of work at your level. But as you move up, you need to decide what GL counters are you working on? Get those squads R5 for datacrons.

My general rules are: minimum requirement for unlocking, then minimum requirement for using: TB/GAC/arena.

If I will use them, G12. If I need them at relic, G13-r0. If I will use them for a specific unlock, r3-8 depending on minimum relic requirement. If I need them at a higher relic level for TB, then from, eg. R5 unlock to R7 use in TB. If they are a GL, a fleet meta wherein speed matters, etc. then I will take them higher
