also skip r2 and cls team early on, it's too much of a grind. do palp, thrawn. farm mara jade and build an empire team

(Warning, wall of text. tl;dr there are a few quick things you can do, but you need to decide a long-term farm to help inform your short-term goals)
So, first thing you should do is take a look at what legendary characters you can unlock now. With your current roster, you can unlock the following at at-least 5 stars: Emperor Palpatine, Grandmaster Yoda, Grand Admiral Thrawn, R2-D2, Chewbacca, and BB8. Unlocking these will give you more options, and notably will give you free crystals for each stage of their events that you complete.
Next up, the honest first thing I would do is get Bossk and Hound's Tooth to 7-stars. Bossk will be useful for you for the rest of the game, and getting Hound's Tooth unlocked early can help you get better fleet arena standings and, thus, better daily crystal payouts. Hound's Tooth is a plug-and-play ship that one could argue is the best overall unit in the game and you won't regret farming it early.
From there... honestly, before you do anything else you need to decide what your first 'big farm' (ie; journey guide farm that requires relics) will be. While you shouldn't rush anything, knowing what your long-term plans are can help inform your short-term plans. For instance, if you're looking at Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as your first big farm, then going for CLS (Commander Luke Skywalker) is a pretty good early move, whereas if you plan to go for Jedi Master Kenobi then CLS probably isn't the smart move, but Padme would be (which would mean you'd need to work on separatists to unlock her, etc.). So, knowing your long-term goals and working backward is a good idea.
