#DDR5 Ram Crashing Mid Game
57 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
What's your system specs? Board, CPU etc?
I have an i9 14900k. 5080. Windows 11. Z690 AORUS PRO
Thank you @spice surge
So since gigabyte sucks and hasn't been keeping up with validation on that board, you might be at a crossroads where you just can't run that speed at that density on that board. They haven't validated anything past 6000 and even on the specs page it stops at 6200.
So basically you have a few options. The first one would be to update your Bios to the latest version if not already so you have the best microcode and the most up to date memory support. Second step is to make sure the ram itself isn't faulty. I'd run memtest to see if you have any errors.
If your bios is updated no errors in memtest and you still have crashes you might have to run it at a lower clock. Me personally i'd just return it for another set and i'd stick to something thats on the QVL. Or it could just be Fornite being the crap game it is. YMMV. Is it crashing in anything else?
How much would a replacement board be? That’s decent. I use the name slots on mine rn. I appreciate your help bro. Just trying to figure all this out. If I got a different board, I might as well get faster ram if I’m buying new ram. My old ram is good but slow. It’s only 4000 speed and c40
I do photo and video editing as well and stream occasionally. My game lags now tho and I’m pretty sure my ram just can’t keep up because all my other parts are good
Only thing that I haven’t changed now is my nvme ram and mother board
I have Ethernet. So I don’t need WiFi.
Also, if I install the ram again. Anyway you can help me get it stable at 6000 or 6200 speed? @spice surge
Hi! We see that you're asking for help. We are not an official support forum so we highly encourage you to create a ticket with our official support team.
While you wait for a response from them, feel free to make a post in #1060676452527378472 - please detail out your issue and a community member might be able to help you!
The xmp that it comes with is for 6600 speed or 6800 speed
I have my old ram installed rn
So since you have a 14900K the ideal ram speed would be 7200 cl 34. Thing is they don't make kits over 48GB that fast because no CPU can run dual ranked kits that fast. So if you really think you need that much memory you're going to be limited. I'm pretty sure 48 or 64 gigs would be enough. Even on updated z790s the fastest i'm seeing 96 kits run is at 6400 cl 32. So you paying for an excessive amount of ram and for Dom Titans I think you pretty much just wasted money to be fair.
If it was me I'd return the ram cause you're not going to get it to run stable on any but the highest end of boards and you have to decide if you want speed or capacity.
This would be my suggestion. New board and choose your ram.
You don’t think I’ll get my board to run stable at 6000 even?
Or is it capacity that’s causing the problem? Would 64gb do better
I wouldn't bother. Why have 6600 sticks and you can only run at 6000. That's a waste.
64 would be the same boat. Both are dual ranked.
I just meant if I returned the 6600 sticks and got 6000 speed and kept my board now
I just don’t know what my best bang for the buck is going to be
I’m pretty sure my ram speeds now are causing stutters when I play and stuff. Can’t keep up with everything else
Also, thank you so much for your time and help. I appreciate you
Your current board hasn't been validated to run any dual ranked sticks faster than 5600. They have only one kit on there that they got to run at 6000 with 2 actual modules. So even 6000 may be ifffy.
That other board you sent me won’t have that problem?
What’s the fastest I can run with it?
I’m getting on my pc now to look into all this more. I can get in a call if it’s easier

Nope. That's what a boards QVL is for. It's not the end all be all but it helps you make an informed decision about what the board is capable of running and at what speeds. So you don't end up in a scenario now where you just buy a kit and hope it works.
Thank you so much. Sorry for all the questions. Trying to figure this all out. Just don’t want to run into problems again
Does this mean it's limited to 16gb? or is that per stick? Because I would need 64gb ram at least for what I do
The capacity on the chart is per stick. So 7600 can only be achieved with a single ranked kit. Which for D5 that's 16 GB/24 GB per stick. So your limit would be 48GB at 7600. Your limit for dual ranked sticks (32 GB/48 GB per stick) is 6400.
That makes more sense. Thank you so much
I'm going to look and see what best bang for buck board I can find and then go from there. That way I know what im looking for.
Now I just need to make sure the NVME slots dont mess with the GPU and slow it down and ill be golden
Hopefuilly I can figure something out sooner than later. That way I can get it ordered
CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 RAM 96GB (2x48GB) 6400MHz CL32 Intel XMP iCUE Compatible Computer Memory - Black (CMH96GX5M2B6400C32)
This one will work with the board you sent? It shows on pc part picker but not on the MB list
@spice surge
Should be fine. It's other 96GB 6400 cl32 kits on the list. You really, really want that 96GB don't you...lol.....
I do 4k video editing. So sometimes it helps out to have it
That board you sent will allow me to run x16 with my gpu as well, correct? The m.2 wont mess with it?
Theres this board as well thats close in price
You can edit 4K with 64GB. You can do 8K footage with 64GB. 96 is alot bro. Like i'm talking professional Threadripper editing levels.
And the downside of the Z790 chipset and LGA 1700 platform period is that if the primary m.2 slot is gen 5 it will cut your GPU down to x8. That's not a board issue that's just Intel 12th/13th/14th gen chips don't have enough gen 5 PCIE lanes.
That particular board doesn't have a primary gen 5 m.2 slot so no it will not effect the pcie x16 slot. So you get (4) full gen 4x4 m.2s and a 5.0 x16 slot.
Is the board I sent or the one you sent better?
Would I better off getting less ram and faster speeds then in your opinion?
@spice surge
I could get 48gb and be at 7200 speed
MSI is my board brand of choice but no it's a worse board than the Gigabyte it has worse VRMs.
If it was me this would be my choice. But I don't know how serious of a video editor you are. But to be fair unless it's your profession, like it's what you do for money then that much ram is unnecessary. If you're just editing stuff for fun or as hobby even as a lil side gig. Don't overspend. Cause you're not getting a ROI.
Nobody is going to care if you spent 150 or 350 dollars on ram. Doesn't make your build better than someone elses.
I just want something thats good for comp gaming/streaming and video editing. I just do it as a side gig now. Use the pc for both RN
Then you don't need 96 gigs. You probably don't need 64. The fact that you're asking means that you don't need it...lol.....
Just get a 2x24 gig kit. 7200 cl 34 or 36 and a new board that'll run em and you'll be good.
Appreciate you bro. I’m looking now for the best option. I’ll probably get the gigabyte board that you sent originally
I like the MSI board look better. It matches my card. But I’m going to keep researching
