#

Nature walks are fun.

#

Also 56mm lens is surprisingly good for birds.

verbal laurel
#

50 mm is also nice

#

If you can get close enough ( ps, remote shot with live view on a phone)

verbal laurel
#

@deft garden what u think about the 35 mm 1.4 S Z ?

deft garden
#

35mm is a good usable focal length. 1.4 is a fantastic aperture. But idk how needed it is overall.

#

I’d rather have my 24-70mm f2.8. I don’t feel like I’m missing out.

verbal laurel
#

Im thinking of buying a new lens

#

Was looking the 24-70

#

But idk about price

#

Since the 50 mm for group photos are pretty much impossible for small environment

#

Are u using the 24-70 mark 1 ?

deft garden
#

Yes, I bouth the mk I the day before the mk II was announced and released. BUT, its essentially a new coating, faster AF and internal zoom. All I care about is the internal zoom but not 800 USD worth of care.

#

Ive only done astro with it so far though. Have not taken a single day time photo with it. 😂

verbal laurel
#

I was quoted to cover a 2 night balet event

#

The problem is

#

I have no idea how much should I charge

#

And i have no ideia if my z5 would hold

#

I have fear that it broke during the shooting

deft garden
#

it shouldnt break doing the shoot, but Id be worried about the 4.5 FPS and AF as the dancers spin around stage.

verbal laurel
#

My z5 is kind old

#

#

And after the 180-600 Im pressing more the shutter

verbal laurel
#

Was not bat

#

Ok, asking for eye tracking was to much

#

But from 1k photos a few only the focus was lost

#

Most of time I was using the fewer points

deft garden
#

Yeah, trying to keep them in that box will probably help a lot. Youll be pushing it to the max with that stage lighting too im sure.

#

But even then, the shutter shouldnt give out even from being in 2021. Its a more modern camera and while mechanical, it shouldnt die at 300k.

narrow pollen
#

One of these is from in-camera adjustments, the other from simple post-processing. Which is better/prettier?

verbal laurel
#

pay one day cause the event will be on a weekend

#

uhm

#

UHM

#

oh forget i would need to rent a lens to

#

fuck

narrow pollen
# verbal laurel 2

That's interesting. I like the additional detail I see on 2, but the mistiness of 1 also has an interesting quality to it. As a print, I'd definitely prefer 2 though.

narrow pollen
deft garden
narrow pollen
#

Oh I like that idea.

deft garden
#

You’ll have to share once it’s done. I want to see how it comes out.

verbal laurel
#

not bad for a old camera

verbal laurel
deft garden
verbal laurel
#

Yeap

#

But i set the price considering renting a camera, just in case

#

Since renting it will come with 2 batteries and 2 fast sd cards

#

And if use mine, will have to buy at least 1 more

verbal laurel
deft garden
#

I def had to buy a second battery when I got the Z8 it eats battery. 🪫

#

Get the rental early and practice a lot with it. I’d be worried to rent a camera I’m not familiar with and not have it be intuitive

verbal laurel
#

Yeap, I will get 1 day before and in the day of the event

#

Since is at night

#

And I'm planning to rent nikon Z 6 iii or Z6 ii ( need better af on bad light)

#

The learning curve shouldn't be too big

#

But I'm already wanting a new SD card and battery for my z5, hope nikon dont change batteries format so soon

verbal laurel
#

Aaa the store i would rent dont send by mail

#

And they are in another estate

deft garden
#

Glad you looked into it now.

verbal laurel
#

well i already accepted the cover the event

#

so what a better excuse, to buy a nikon Z5 ii

#

i was looking the z6 iii, but nah, z5 ii is way to better value for money

#

since i have no idea how to edit videos, so why 6k

#

that 20 fps looks nice....

deft garden
#

20fps is fantastic.

verbal laurel
#

like 200 euros

#

but like

#

200 =1-2k reals, so idk if is worth honestly

deft garden
#

I don’t know enough about the sensor on the z5ii. Regular sensor with exspeed 7 AF processor? And the 6iii has the partial stacked which idk how I feel about that, does the 6iii have a shutter at all?

#

With the z8 fully stacked sensor I’ve had zero banding so I’m not worried about that. But if the 6iii has no shutter and partial stacked, I’m not sure how reliable that would be in bad light, higher iso with fats moving dancers.

At least the 5ii has an actual shutter

#

Google says z6iii better for fast action and more demanding environments.

verbal laurel
#

Make sense

#

Z5 ii would be more nice

#

Saddly z8 too much

#

🥹

deft garden
#

Its so good though. I love it.

#

Oh the z5ii has 14 fps? Yeah, you should be more than fine with that.

jagged lake
#

mines 8 in the usual mode that’s good

#

12 in high speed which is crazy fast

#

R50 does 12/15 which is very nice

verbal laurel
#

Probably, since i already have low fps with z5

Another lens cleaned and “repaired”

(Cleaned the oil off the aperture blades so that it could stop down)

#

Also cleaned the closest internal elements, and both exterior ones

verbal laurel
#

@deft garden what i think, z5 ii or try tk go to z8 ?

#

Just for basic usage

deft garden
#

I regret nothing about the Z8. But thats me. You want a new Camera for your shoot you got paid for, z5ii may not be a bad choice either and def work better for you than the z5 does, especially with AF.

verbal laurel
#

I was planning try to go more pro

#

On it

#

So I fear the z5 ii may not be enough

#

The z5 is amazing camera, but af let me in hand a few times

#

@deft garden what u think, worth buy a z5 ii ( not because of the shoot, but considering a 2 camera )

deft garden
#

I think it would be just for the AF

verbal laurel
#

Uhmm

#

I was thinking if is not more worth for now the 28-75 mm 2.8 Z

Since it would cover a range j dont have today 25-50 ( im only have 50 and 180-600)

Proimage is much smoother

More classic good look

but kodacolor 200? Oh yeah that’s definitely ColorPlus

I think they just revived its sibling.

Now we wait for Gold 800 (kodacolor 800) to return :)

and KC400

Proimage seems like it was designed for different climates (se Asia) and has different looks

But also all the cheap color (Kodak) manufactured films are just different versions of the same base (historical base?) emulsion

You already have a 80-200/2.8 so I'm not terribly sure how much an extra 90/2.8 will give you. But I also have a growing collection so I can't really judge anyone else with GAS.

jagged lake
#

Well the 90/2.8 is a 1:1 macro lens

#

The 80-200 won’t focus closer than about 4 feet

#

(It’s an old design)

narrow pollen
#

Dang, I can use only 2 feet. But if you think you have a use case, I don't see a reason not to go for it.

jagged lake
#

Fair enough

#

I might

#

Ugh I’m torn between the Sony 100/2.8 and the Tam 90/2.8

#

Sony is screw-drive autofocus but has 399 focus points on my a99ii
Tamron is in-lens motor but can only use 79 focus points

#

I think I’ll still probably go Tamron because it’ll be quicker and it’s internal not external focusing

narrow pollen
#

For macro you normally manual focus anyway?

jagged lake
#

Yeah that too

#

Hm

#

In that case the Tamron doesn’t change size when focusing and I think has slightly better quality

#

Oh right it’s weather sealed too

Thoughts on sony A6700? Thinking of getting one

junior gale
# paper bear Thoughts on sony A6700? Thinking of getting one

I love my 6400, only thing I wish it had is in body image stabilization, which the 6500+ do. Ultimately probably depends on price and if it ticks all the boxes for you, but it’s a great camera. You’re not invested in a lens ecosystem yet I assume?

paper bear
#

Right now im going with all sony since nothing really beats native compatibility. Plus my dad already has a sony apsc 70-350mm which would be a perfect fit for the a6700

#

Only thing im slightly concerned about is the overheating issues when it comes to recording 4k 60fps or higher

#

It will definitely cook in Australian summer heat

junior gale
#

Oof shooting outside, or still pretty warm inside? If you'll have a detached mic you could look into a fan for cooling, I think I remember seeing that as a viable option to help

paper bear
#

Yeah ill be mainly using it for planespotting or as a travel camera. Seems super compact compared to the a7 im using right now.

paper bear
#

Ill probably figure it out when i get it.

junior gale
paper bear
#

Yeah i think its like 20 mins of 4k 60fps.

#

Should be more than enough time

narrow pollen
#

20 mins of 4k60 sounds low, but then again, for photography it doesn't matter as much. And maybe 4k30 is good enough for long videos. I'm on a ZV-E10 and would love the IBIS and backlit sensor of the a6700, but having both cameras doesn't make much sense.

#

I do love the compactness of the camera, plus the compactness of many APS-C lenses (though smaller FF lenses are also sweet on the tiny body).
