#Reimagining Endless - A Guild, maybe?

This is just personal musings but I often have the question: What would it take to make Endless more engaging than just an Orn and Gold Farm? And with concerns over certain classes, it seems like a good time to at least plant a seed.

Here are a few ideas:

-Floor Guardians that show up every so many floors either at set intervals (say every 200) or randomly within a preset of floors (you know it’s coming but not when). These would either be unique mobs of their own or a set of bonuses to a normal mob (like status immunities or resistances) or could be a completely new mob entirely

-At least a guardian at floor 399. You want that The Endless X badge? Fight him!

-More than raw stats per floor at least after a certain point: status resistances or immunities, new moves, AoE moves, class passives, etc. stasis immunity after so many floors/anguish levels should be a given

-Unique Mobs that have rare drops (maybe consumables?) for tougher fights. Thinking of roguelite/like enemy modifiers. codexers beware!

-An option to disable ALs for a run - purely for the challenge, no bonus needed here.

-Either anguish specific maluses or a “heat” meter like Hades or roguelikes have where you add modifiers to the enemies that makes the run tougher

-A guild or leaderboard that included ALs, no ALs and/or per class

-Party endless (event?) where players of the same tier (maybe with ALs disabled or only so far apart) could enter an Endless run together with some unique bosses or challenges thrown in - and probably some way to make alt running harder

-Tools for Gilgamesh either via farming gear with ward (and negative stats?) or something else to at least let the class work try. Anguish bonuses help but only a little and I wouldn’t want a whole class shut out of a redesigned endless!

Got any other ideas of your own? Go!

Im fully with it, especially guardians and leaderboard

#

For special guardians, i actually got idea, making special competition in both orna and hoa, where players design thier guardians. For eg. Name, stats, attacks, drops? immunities, resistances, weakness and so on.

With each winner getting special title and possibly sprite

When the discussion for potential Anguish maluses occured before Ang 2.0, I suggested that enemies could occasionally have random amities or similar bonuses:

  • Monsters potentially appear with 1 bonus effect
  • Bosses always have 1, but with potential for 2 bonuses
  • Berserk enemies always gain +1 bonus effect

If this was added to Endless, the chance of them appearing with these bonuses could scale with depth the same way berserk spawns do.

The work required is (presumably) simple since the pool of bonuses already exists in the form of Anguish gear bonuses and Amity effects, maybe with the removal of effects that are useless for enemies (View Distance, extra healing from potions, Mana Regen, etc.)

Keeping the effects and their chances random keeps things fair so it doesn't target any particular classline's capabilities but still has the potential to give someone pause to think. It will suck equally for everyone when something appears with auto-counter, a berserk boss at floor 500+, Mammon appears with +30% Arcane Damage, etc.

If we go the guild route, make it a branch of the Spelunking Guild for a thematic fit. At current, it seems this guild's use and appeal caters to early game players, which is perfectly fine, but it'll see more activity from having Endless related to it.

Deepshards can be kept separate from Endless runs, although a reward of 1 Deepshard/Floor when you inevitably die doesn't seem too game breaking.

I thought of another one because Roguelite brain:

Every so many floors is a designated “zone” where enemies have a predictable bonus/“amity” if you will

Per events, those zones could change to add more or fewer event mobs too

Like, an "Inferno" zone where the consistent enemy bonus is +20% Fire Damage (with more or less specificity)? Or they all have Fire Sigil+ added to their move list, etc.

Horde endless mode?

@serene finch sorry for the ping but you could add crazy passives to monsters

Like omnimancy ( being immune to unpredictable elements )

Avidity

More redliners

Would be crazy blocks for a lot of people or easy for others

#

Also you could have like a floor 100 boss every 100 floors that gets increasingly harder with more passives and stats added onto it each encounter

Having enemies increase their foresight could also add something.

Give enemies randomized SUBCLASSES MeruSip

At 250th floor (or something like that) give all mobs dark immunity and at 369th floor (or something like that) give all mobs envy/despair

Another fun thought: enemies scale faster or are more likely to have nasty buffs and effects based on your overall equipped orn (or gold or both) bonus 😈

I'd love to see rewards separated from booster gear somehow. Maybe make it a new branch completely where we have the same 'ol for XP, Orn, Gold and then this reimagined branch that's being brainstormed. Where XP, Orns, Gold aren't present or drastically reduced compared to traditional with an alternate carrot at the end of the stick. For example unique gear, gear augment (chance to do "x" to worn gear piece), adorns, consumables, proofs (if it were to go the having a guild associated with its route).

I've long disliked the conflict between running the hardest / most challenging content and using your best most powerful gear resulting in (basically) completely negating the reward incentive.

Love the leader board idea as well. Which would certainly add incentive for some players. Also would love for it to have occasional resets. Where the current board gets frozen and is forever observable. Then a fresh one begins. Coinciding with any major balance patches or change to the revamped endless mechanics / systems or just periodically for the sake of freshing things up.

Great! Yeah I totally get it haha

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away it was just the lost helm, garb and BoGs

Now we have amities and questing weapons, etc (not to mention ALs) to not only boost upkeep but make things easier

It was a ton of fun to try and figure out how best to survive as each class in endless

More than questing weapons, we have yelmogus weapons. And also mnemosyne rings which will give more than a normal bog with quality while much easier to get + 8% 2h stats.

Oh I had an idea a while back that could totally apply here.

Endless can become a weekly activity accessible through a guild - perhaps spelunking as mentioned previously. Start it on Monday and it'll be accessible through Sunday for you to hop in and continue throughout the week.

The actual "dungeon" could be similar to a tower or exploration dungeon layout, or it could remain as current Endless.

I really like the ideas going around in here.
What I REALLY want, is hoard Endless. So many times that I'm having a lot of fun but while I'm working in higher and higher damage it doesn't get good until the very end. I want those hoard fights to have infinite potential!
