If that makes sense

rapid fossil
#

Even decked out, it's ridiculous. I've been able to test that much. I almost lost my eyebrows taking 500 damage using Bastion with a demonforged Surtr's shield with no debuffs.

warm wigeon
#

Oh wow yes that is absolutely busted😂

rapid fossil
#

IIII dunno. It took me from 0 damage to okay damage in one turn. Maybe it was something else

#

Rewards from 2,212. Items, proofs, florens, and crownguards are still very disappointingly capped.

warm wigeon
red obsidian
#

Legacy drove participation just by bigger reputation number, better leaderboard feeling, where as the reward cap makes it feel like there is a goal to get enough land to get cap consistently, but beyond that idk if this will drive the same type of competition. I like the system so far though.

orchid meadow
#

Just so I can be across this as I haven't heard of any cap outside of player hypothesis - can someone direct me to where it may have been mentioned by Odie that there is a cap? I cannot locate it

sacred spade
#

Depending on the DR it might be an aggressive soft cap

#

Like, after 1500 territories you need 250 more to get the equivalent of 1 or something, which makes it look capped

red obsidian
#

We obviously don't know how full release will be, but someone with 170 crowns getting the same quantity of proofs, shines, Crownguards, and items as a person with around 1800 crowns kind of points to a cap currently being in place... Idk

#

Oh also Florens being 125 for both players

#

So true it is a hypothesis but it has been interesting to see player rewards vs how many crowns they have when posted

pulsar spear
crisp condor
#

Where beta update patch notes

red obsidian
#

I saw someone post a 24 Proof screenshot, but they got no item/shrine/crownguard so the thought is those are all tied together currently so far

sacred spade
#

For the sake of argument, if we assume 125 x3 materials is the soft cap, that turns into

125 x 3 x 30 = 11250 total mats a month

There are 62 mats possible, which means (roughly) you'll see each one twice a month on average.

How do people feel about the total mat reward?

How do people feel about getting 250(ish) cort/realm ore/avalon ore/other annoying mats each month?

pulsar spear
#

Honestly this is part of the mechanics I have been bugging to get info on but said I would stop before open beta lol

sacred spade
#

Too high/too little/just right?

#

(Also acknowledging there are a bunch of other rewards in there)

pulsar spear
#

I would like to see the mats remove common quality from the pool entirely

#

and then 125 would be ok to me

unreal lily
red obsidian
#

That is about the same materials as 5 refineries in 12 hours, but they are more focused rewards instead of random... So pretty good

karmic nymph
#

Do we know how the mats reward is determined? Purely random or?

sacred spade
#

It should be based on currently owned settlements imo

red obsidian
pulsar spear
#

Other limits I have noticed:
1 Shrine only for 1 Hour
1 Max Crownship
1 item? (this one is fuzzy)
Factors we aren't sure of - Distance from OT, Time for decay of rewards (assuming 7 days from 0 activity like old system I think is what was used), Affect of increased activity and the bonus it could give.

#

ok sorry will stop talking about that again 😭

unreal lily
# sacred spade It should be based on currently owned settlements imo

... Kinda?

The settlements are now intended to turnover, so being good at the guild isn't just owning lots of things but also retaking lots of things.
But this is a good topic -- guild exp afaik is still undecided. Guild exp sources and amounts should be nailed down before this goes to live 👍

#

Definitely agree that RPS shouldn't account for much of your guild exp (if... any).

pulsar spear
#

SAS/Duels give 1 xp for winning I think and the actual conquest is giving 0?

red obsidian
#

If we get daily exp based on held crowns when collecting, and exp when winning a crown that would help, otherwise you need to get 25 guild levels just from RPS to buy certain items from the guild shop

pulsar spear
#

Can we all settle on a name for the Duels? It gets confusing

unreal lily

RPS is a nice TLA

RPS just mean something weird to me in gaming

#

red obsidian
#

RPS is a good way to allow a carrot for someone to buy Ramparts and get a foothold... Which I assume is the whole purpose for it being there... It's about accessibility for more players

warm wigeon
#

Brief mentioning of guild exp already in the summary in pins

red obsidian
#

I'm not discounting that, it's more that it seems unfeasible for it to be the only source of exp for guild going forward... Which was never probably the intention anyway

#

Oh, I'm on mobile... No good way to see channel pins afaik

#

Ok guys, let's go back to teamspeak

pulsar spear
#

Did any pros want to weigh in on the pictures above of my Gilga Ward vs Beo Ward? Is that expected to jump so high between the two?

warm wigeon
red obsidian
karmic nymph
pulsar spear
#

TLDR? Gilga wearing same gear with max buffs had 78k ward - Beo with same buffs and pet had 168K ward

red obsidian
crisp condor
#

Bonds?

pulsar spear
#

Yeah pet gives 8% more at BB3

crisp condor
#

Only?

warm wigeon
crisp condor
#

Then who needs gilga when you can go beo lol
Let me try

warm wigeon
#

Some things needed specifics but that one i think was fine as general

red obsidian
#

Yeah, I trust Odie knows what he is doing... It's worked for the rest of the game so far

karmic nymph
#

I'm pretty sure this means the gilga's current ward is 68k and thus the max ward would be ~130k

#

130k to 142k is roughly correct for an 8% increase

red obsidian
#

Would that imply that territory defense stats are multiplicative?

pulsar spear
#

yes sorry this was my thought - base on screen the Gilga has 70 and the Beo has 72 with the pet - It appears it's not additive for the territory defense possibly?

karmic nymph
#

I wouldn't be surprised if it were multiplicative; seems like most stat boosts are

pulsar spear
#

68K is 50% right os 146 vs 143 ok nothing burger sorry

red obsidian

Awesome, yep, haven't noticed since it was fixed, my bad

pulsar spear
#

Whew OS are beefy atm to fight against

#

At least offhands are working now so I was able to cheese the T5 with one

crisp condor
#

Feels better somewhat

pulsar spear
#

eh feels challenging... not good or bad just challenging

crisp condor
#

I still think that's an improvement

pulsar spear
#

T3 are still unable to participate due to bug posted so can't tell how well it's improved

#

348 Crowns roughly 1/2 of which I haven't visited in a week and up to 45 minutes away:

#

florens still holding strong at 125 and my crownships went down to 16 but new highest per material? 144 - 288 total so lower than previous max (not cap) at 410 that we have seen

crisp condor
#

With the first turns 0ing eachother.. spells with high pen might be amazing

pulsar spear
#

So effort v/s reward on this, do I really need to figure out M1/M2 on an OS just to compete now?

#

Someone was getting 0'd with rend/epee the other day

crisp condor
#

Then the first turns are buff turns lol

red obsidian
#

Hmm, from the T10/11 crowns I was just hitting I didn't see myself getting 0'ed and skills that were 0'ed before seem to be killing now

#

Feels like the def/res was brought down then

rapid fossil

It has varied. Highest I've seen was ... 409?

rapid fossil
jolly sable
crisp condor
#

Yeah, he has 2 medium sized countries under his belt

pulsar spear
#

Pretty sure we had pics for 44k+ territory and def didn't have 375 mats on it

#

I think he was inferring to the older Alpha not Territory but I could be wrong. One of the days we say 5 materials at 82 each for 410 - now we haven't seen above 350 and seems like 3 mats

crisp condor
#

Ok maybe 3 countries then

pulsar spear
#

But we have seen up to 144 mats now

#

so I am wrong because that is 432 - too early need coffee was 144 but only 2 so was 288 and still under 350 total

#

I think though I may be finally seeing diminished returns for inactivity as I haven't travelled south since last weekend

rapid fossil
#

I'll have to count again to be sure. Maybe I'm over estimating it because it doesn't give each material consistently each day, but I'll double check for fun

#

This is all just theorizing in case there is actually a cap anyway. I'm not supporting the old rewards or anything

rapid fossil
#

Actually, the math was just wrong unless I am REALLY missing something obvious. I did the math myself this time and you should be getting 180 of each material per month. Which I do exceed that on SOME of them with the gear rewards, but definitely not all of them.

#

OH I see what was happening. Not 2 of each material each month, you meant how often you see that material as the one generated as a daily reward.

#

Following that line of thought, I would much rather see each settlement generate its own material each day for variety

zenith scarab
#

Ahh, so just had a random question that I don't think we can test atm? Maybe I'm wrong. What happens if I take a crown when I am T5 then level to a new tier? Does my OS automatically take it over, do I void ownership and then have to take it with my OS again or something else?

rapid fossil
#

Yep. That one's been answered by the team.

zenith scarab
#

Sweet, thanks

pulsar spear
#

It's a great question though for sure 🙂

#

Do we have an answer on what constitutes activity to keep the rewards rolling in? I have heard that RPS (still cringe imo) doesn't affect it. What made it active in Territories? I could have sworn just driving by did but I could be wrong.

jolly sable
#

so someone fighting the settlement, regardless of victory or not

pulsar spear
#

So if I roll around and smack it with a naked alt I can claim activity

#

and that will now be easier to do with a T2 alt for everyone

red obsidian
pulsar spear
#

I have yet to have an npc attack

#

Not sure if it's b/c I have been attacking the ones near my OT every couple of days with a low level alt or a different sandbox

jolly sable
#

Being near them might just maintain activity

#

Whereas being contested just increases rewards

pulsar spear
#

Right still, I would drive around contesting all the time then when I don't have competition which locally I think I may be the only one in a 25 mile radius

#

My biggest comps are 45 minutes south and 1.5 hours north

rapid fossil
#

It has also been phrased as merely "seeing" the settlement, so I'm not sure if there's any distinction between seeing the settlement and fighting for a crown.

pulsar spear
#

So for best benefits set alt to T1 Thief and nekid to contest and get both 😄

rapid fossil
#

Save for sometimes losing them, that is.

pulsar spear
#

There could be a break point though - wonder how many fighting for the territory gives it a bonus

rapid fossil
pulsar spear
#

Thanks would be awesome if you do 🙂

#

I am already imagining getting 0 at my OT b/c of the potential alt absue and Geographical RNG stuff hates me (think dungeons and roaming towers etc)

supple violet

#

Once I get it built

t10 cactus needs a lot more prep time than t8 cactus

#

idk if t4 cactus is a good idea or if it even works with t5

lyric yarrow
#

IMO The gap in gear options is too big between T8 and T9, and I'm no even talking about celestial gear but just regular gear. I think T9 should be its own thing and T8 couple with T7.

T10
T9
T8-7
T6-5
T4-3-2-1

It increases the lowest tier to T4 but T4 is really fast to get anyways and I don't see people of that level (currently T2) going hard on settlement anyways.

warm wigeon
#

Idk what ur talking about

lyric yarrow
#

I'm talking about the fact that a T8 player can't compare to a T9 othersoul with T9 gear

warm wigeon
#

NF acknowledged the balance issues already

#

As in it's kind of difficult to balance before this hits main game

lyric yarrow
#

is it that difficult to compare T9 gear to T8 gear ?

warm wigeon

rapid fossil

supple violet

supple violet
# analog dew

There should be a toggle to allow you to see the OS names or not in the little name slot there.

rapid fossil
#

Also, I understand the misgivings about Othersouls being able to wear T9 gear, some of which is inaccessible to T8s. However, I still don't think people have been testing them enough to know that, at least in their current state even with their HP double what it was pre-patch, they are going to get steamrolled by regular T9s. I don't think T8s are going to have a tremendous issue if they get decent T8 weaponry. That's even considering that they're at the bottom of their crown's range.

supple violet

dusty sun
red obsidian
#

I wouldn't mind if you could buy materials with guild currency, but honestly with the costs of the stuff that is guild related already, the currencies are more upkeep related and the materials are just the passive income. It's going to depend if the caps are intended as to if it matters personally.

#

If the caps are intended you would be handicapping yourself too much if you spent on materials instead of ramparts/Crownguards... If the caps are going away, there will be an excess of the crownship currency that would be nice to use on materials of your choosing. IMO

rapid fossil
red obsidian

Yep. Although, if you're not interested in Heart of Change, you're just getting scrolls.

That is why I thought materials are almost always welcome so probably a good additional option... But I suppose if people feel like that is too much of a PvE style reward I could understand it.

#

After all wouldn't this be the first guild you can't buy materials from then? I'm also for the idea of a different sprite pack that is tied to proofs of Crownship since the current one is proofs of conquering

pulsar spear
#

Yes I like sprites and crownguards and ramparts as rewards. I would like to see more pvp related rewards as well.

red obsidian
#

I mean, people will play to the degree they wish to already... Some players will farm towers constantly, some are fishing constantly, others amass 200 refineries and keep them stocked with endless, people are gonna people.

#

Guess the point is, people flock to efficient rewards, guilds that have low RoI see a lot less participation, for this guild participation is important for better rewards for all, so the RoI for time should be good, which means a cap is counterintuitive.

supple violet
#

RoI?

dusty sun
rapid fossil
dusty sun
# rapid fossil That's an interesting perspective. I suppose that, if it's not changed, it will ...

True, but for a RoR character that's not really a thing. Maybe it's too small of a niche, this does feel like the only time we've had tier-brackets like this though.

Right now, useful rewards as a lower-tier/RoR char might be:
-Mats for MF/DF (especially if it's tier+1, been very slowly accumulating Pure Lightstone on my T7)
-Unique or raid-specific gear (Monument guild has been great)
-Improvements to existing gear, new skills, etc etc.

Idk, I've suggested before it'd be neat to see some sort of method to very slowly improve existing gear quality? Maybe chances to re-roll quest item quality? Could be too much, idk. Would be neat to see something unique.

The difference is that Swash is only attack, Warden increases 25% stats (HP and Mana are only reflected in the ward increase I think) and plus an amity of 15% stats when defending reaches +44% stats, it is different from Swash because, you cannot increase Swash with amitys or pets (yes, with Bestial Bond it reaches 58% or 59% stats, it is stronger than Swash II, although of course, it only works in settlements

I would be willing to bet most people, unless they happen to be getting attacked while doing the attacking, would just switch between Warden and Conquerer for the appropriate situation rather than going Emperor because it would be cheaper.

Okay, so, do we know how the rankings are calculated?

#

Because I don't have that much but am here... is it a regional number rather than global?

pulsar spear
pulsar spear
#

We have to disagree that there aren't hard limits in place Dangy. 125 Florens regardless of number of settlements pointed to that as a reward is all we get. The highest rewards for Crownship Proofs is also definitely maxed out at 21 but now we can't seem to hit that with Sora having over 2,500 crownships. If it's not a cap then the exponential scale for diminishing rewards is so high that it may as well be a cap. There is no way we can determine what the rate of return is and what the curve looks like for any of the rewards but we can tell you that for 100% sure that 125 is max, Crownship has been tweaked to give less than 20 now. Materials are in a weird fluxation where someone with 2500 crownships Can only get about 400 materials vs someone with 432 getting 366 - That would be an 81% diminishing return and using that logic someone with 5,000 settlements wouldn't be able to hit 500 materials. There also has to be a point where diminishing returns would cap out our it would overflow and go negative. So there would have to be a cap in place to prevent that overlfow.

#

Settler's Crownguard and items also appear to have a hard cap of 1 per 24 hours. I haven't calculated shrines fully but it would appear they are also under the same limitation - hard to prove this one since's it's only 3% chance per and I haven't found 60+ settelements with that option. To further complicate things there is a diminishing return per crownship on a settlement owned that is hard to calculate on top of said diminishing returns for overall. These two could very well be creating an uninential cap because they are set so high. Gold and Orns appear to have a much lower rate of diminishing returns that seems linear instead of exponential since at 432 I get roughtly 412k while at 6 times that Sora is getting 1.9 - this one actually may calculate at around 20% diminishing returns vs the 80% roughly observed for the other rewards

#

To be clear I think this system is 10,000 times better than the old one. I also think its ok for there to be limits on the Proofs, Materials, Florens, Items and Crownguards - I just don't think they are working at the expected levels. The only test of florens I was able to do was to decrease down to 45 at 132 settlements and then go back to to 125 - to go from sub 250 all the way up to 2500 and only see 125 should prove that the exponential dimishing returns is set way too high so as to basically appear as a hard cap. The switch is too fast on it.

desert zenith
#

Great feed back @pulsar spear that suggests there is no real benefit from taking a large number of settlements as you will hit caps left right and centre, and that brings me back to the ranking calculation. Largely I play to take territory and had been gradually creeping nearer and nearer to top 100 globally for that. For me, if there isn't a ranking reason to take territory I probably won't bother with the new system as I don't care about mats or the other rewards much. Does anyone have any idea about the ranking?

jolly sable
#

Also, in earlier builds, ~everything was capped at one settlement

#

likely unintentionally

pulsar spear
#

To be clear I am not disagreeing with Dangy. In theory you could just over tune the diminishing returns to eventually hit 0 without it being a hard cap. This is basically the same as a hard cap in a players eyes.

#

But some things do in fact have a hard cap or the diminishing return is like 99% in the case of items and florens would be something like 80% with a 2% increase so that 125 was the spot where 0 returns start

buoyant falcon
#

Whether there are hard caps or diminishing returns I have the same opinion, why would there be less rewards for doing more? Just reduce the initial rewards if necessary. It would be like reducing anguish proofs after X dungeons per week.

lyric yarrow
#

most likely to prevent enormous rewards for some players. The new system give so much more rewards than the old one, but if the very invested players from the old system were investing as much, it would probably end up being somewhat infinite rewards for them. So basically Odie may have chosen this solution to give relevant rewards to low invest while not skyrocketting rewards for high invest.

crisp condor
#

While I feel like this would kill the John that has 10k settlements in the middle of a dessert.. I kinda agree
Why limit it so much? Make maybe npcs that attack those forgotten settlements or something

buoyant falcon
#

But the work is still being done, is it really any different than the guy who does 100 anguish dungeons a day?

lyric yarrow
#

it's to match the time commitment. That one is hard to evaluate in a beta with less people competing for the settlements but it looks more like a one and done compared to the time it takes to run 100 dungeons (which represent more than 8h if you consider a dungeon every 5 minutes without any pause)

desert zenith
#

It's vaguely irritating that NPCs are going to attack you, in, what I thought was a PvP feature, just to help with resources being balanced? I travel a lot but don't often re-visit the same area for several months. Currently I lose the most to players on main rail, bus, road routes or towns (as it should be), but the stuff out in the styx rarely gets touched. I would be very happy with a check-box to disable rewards and give a slight bonus to ranking calculation, and, critically disable NPC attacks, or you know, just don't change system.

jolly sable
desert zenith
lyric yarrow
#

with how much rewards it gives (and the quality of it) I don't think it's a good idea to let people have has much captured zones has before. It would be some massive passive income.

desert zenith
#

That I agree with but I want all the settlements 🙂 🙂 🙂 (assuming it helps ranking du )

buoyant falcon
#

Yeah I think a lot of the economy concerns are answered better by the diminishing returns based on inactivity and natural loss due to competition than hard/soft caps.

lyric yarrow
#

maybe we could find some rewards that could be infinitely stacked, while the token remain capped. This way you don't feel scamed when you hard commit to this guild.

We don't even know if there are caps, it's just speculation that is based on a reward formula that has been quite buggy to date.

pulsar spear

I have yet to have an NPC attack btw - been a few weeks or at least a couple weeks

#

If they don't have caps the rewards are exponentially diminished which would effectively be a cap at some point or it would overflow and go negative

pulsar spear
# orchid meadow I need to clear this up, as it appears there's a misunderstanding with what I wr...

Like I said later, not disagreeing with what you said. I am saying that the evidence makes it to appear that if there are no caps then the diminishing returns are so high that it mays as well be a cap. Crownship proofs could have an 80% with 2% increase to rapidly hit 99.99% and Florens could be a 90% with 5% increases while Orns and Gold seem to be 20% and Items/Settler's Crownguards seem to be 95% with a 4% increase after the first one. Both points can be true, Dangy has not heard of there being caps, however the players are observing hard/soft caps in their rewards based on the data we have collected so far.

Whether the observed caps are intentional is the question, which is where Dangy saying he hadn't heard about caps matters, because that points to them potentially being unintentional.

serene dirge
#

I think it will be more beneficial for the overall beta at this time to focus on functionality/stability, rather than a daily checkin for rewards.

Reward curves, diminishing returns, and underscoring values used within are likely going to see a lot of change as we progress towards live, and may not be the best use of our time right now

Well as I have said before, functionally they work. Issues being persistence when leaving VD area can be a little too short.
NPC's haven't attacked me yet - anyone else had them attack? Is this supposed to be just loss of health over time that maybe I missing?
OS still have really bad Mana and taking stuff with them is now really hard. I have a T7 with 0 Mana.
OS fights seem to have a high def/ward against NPC and only waiting for PVP decay seems to allow them to hit, even with good weapons or pets. My T9 for instance is in all GF gear with a SpiritGarm as a pet and has to wait several rounds to do damage.
The rest of all my concerns are with all the above and things that may come after live like spawn rate, turnover etc.

I love how settlements function. They're fantastic, really. Othersouls are super cute and interesting!

Ok so I have a lot of respect for the obviously huge amount of work that's gone into Conquerer's and this alpha build. I have to be honest, the one thing I don't like about Conquerer's Guild vs territory control, is Conq Guild does not feel like I am conquering areas or land.

Obviously this is my opinion. I feel like I'm controlling a randomly placed building, vs territory control where I feel like I'm controlling anything from vast areas of land, to small pockets.

To me, what makes territory control so wonderful is knowing that wherever I go, there is another area waiting for me to conquer just beyond the boundaries of the cirlces within my sight.

Conq Guild settlement placement feels scattered. I do not get the feeling they're associated with areas or land.

While I can of course choose legacy mode and participate in territory control, I fell in love with Orna because of two systems; territory and kingdoms. It's bittersweet to know two things:
A) Territory control in fact won't be improved or expanded on after all.
B) Inevitably some/many of the players whom I've fought over territory for, will no longer be engaging with it.

I have a ton of further thoughts on this, but what I wrote here is the core of it. Testing Conquerer's has made me see why it's been a feature that's needed a bit of time to be ready for testing. Territory/exploration is so tightly integrated into the overworld, not to mention the settlement concept and functionality 🥵

west plinth
#

Here's some more related but separate feedback. TLDR = bolded text.

  1. Those who choose Legacy Conqueror:
1a) You don't seem to get the choice of going to New World Conqueror later
1b) **Typo **with the Legacy Conqueror choice in-game, it's missing an 'r'; Legacy Conqueor
(TBH the number of times I've spelt Conq incorrectly while writing these posts is insane. Damn this word!!!)

  2. For those who choose New World Conqueror choice, there are some interactions with traditional 'areas' that stand out to me. I'm not sure what I think about these.
2a) New World players still see area names, and their OT is still associated with areas. There doesn't appear to be any further relevance of areas to their game. Feels odd but maybe it's just something to get used to.
2b) New World players have the Travellers Guild overworld button, regardless of whether they will use Travellers Guild. Just an observation. Having played for 5 years, I see the path that led to this and it's fine, though it seems odd. Perhaps it should eventually be adjusted somehow but I'm undecided. This is an alpha after all.

Thanks for listening, much respect to the devs 🫡

Can I just suggest the full removal of territory income, and the "question" upon opening the guild for the first time? It seems to be horribly misinterpreted, and territory income is negligible anyway.

I think this change would enormously lessen Conqueror's Guild confusion. I, and many others, interpreted it to mean Conqueror's Guild income is being given up, not territory income, just because no one really thinks about territory income. At 1200 territories, I currently make about as much per day as I get from a typical T10 monster.

Other than that, my concerns are gone, and I'm now super excited!

Territory rewards are gone either way (which is fine - surely nobody plays territory control for the rewards). Although I don't know what happens to territory rewards if you don't build the Conq guild in the first place

vital bolt

If it were up to me, the old system would be left alone entirely. I don't want to start that discussion.

#

But for now, the question is what's causing confusion. I've been incredibly anxious, and even after playing the beta, I still assumed it meant Conqueror's Guild income.

vital bolt

But it is being left alone to those who still want to engage with it - There's just no, negligible, rewards anymore

opal vector

New players won't be able to engage with it, right?

west plinth
#

Agreed the Conq guild question/message is a lot.

If the message is necessary, perhaps just adjusting the wording may be appropriate, for clarity?

Eg
Legacy Conqueror
The Conqueror's Guild and its rewards will become available to you.
Additionally, you will keep access to the current Territory etc etc..

New World Conqueror
The Conqueror's Guild and its rewards will become available to you.
Additionally, you will surrender all currently owned Areas etc etc...

New characters will just automatically be new world conquerors

opal vector

The random building feel is a little odd compared to the old system. If there was one settlement per circle, whose interface was accessed like the old one, that would retain the old feel and solve placement of settlements but the new design looks likely to create more fights where the clusters are (depending on cool downs etc). So instead of all of I80 being owned by someone we will have little clusters along it, right? If it was one settlement per old territory that would also give a migration path for old territory holders to move to new world because they could have the top spot retained. I.e. your 3,4,5 year investment in taking land isn't wiped out. If there are multiple randomly placed settlement buildings that's not an easy option to implement (you would have to locate at least one settlement per territory held and put the player in the appropriate slot for their tier). Just thinking aloud. Back to functional testing with me 😊🤔

Yeah it seems pretty solid as others have said. I guess we will just have to wait and see what it looks like when way more people are playing the beta. In two weeks I will get a chance to take about 6-7k settlements across the UK. So I should then see loads of fights the the following weeks from other beta players.

I'd say there's a way to fit it in the middle, where there's plenty for you in a rural area, but there's maybe a percentage more in high density areas, where competition is more fierce.

#

Not sure what that percentage would be. I feel like if you don't, the opposite is true, with rural players getting a big advantage. I'll take it though, I live in a rural area and I don't mind grabbing all the uncontested settlements up. Nom :3

Orna is a complex game with many aspects that culminate in PVP. Here's the first problem, where the new system completely ignores what makes the game so great: character development. The new system is a compromise for weaker players who started playing later. So what... this is how it is in many other online games. The second problem is that PVP is supposed to be fast and easy. The new system is not. And thirdly, I have no interest in playing with othersouls. I play rpgs where I only want one character. Which represent me in the game. I am sure it would be much more clear if I could speak with you personally. Srry I am not a native speaker and having sometimes problem to express things clearly 😉

# dreamy scroll Orna is a complex game with many aspects that culminate in PVP. Here's the first...

About problem 1, Conquerors Guild is made to give more rewards the more activity (fights/stealing settlements) there is, and I really don't like how some old players just want to keep an entire city and have everyone see them, I prefer continuous battles in one place than never having fights, thanks to the old system there were kingdoms that had a rule not to capture territories from other kingdoms or other people if you wanted to enter the kingdom, something like that shouldn't happen anymore with the new one.

The second problem I agree 100%, I don't understand why making it slow, I hope NF fixes it

The third problem, we are not supposed to fight with the T3 (for example) NF made a territory for each Tier, and even so we have the option to compete there with the Othersouls, so I don't see anything wrong with them

Likely not, because one of the ramparts items is designed around restoring settlement HP

opal vector
#

I have a few questions, all of which require too much time to test, or I can't currently test because I'm stuck where there isn't a settlement:

#
  • Do you get reputation from each Crown you hold in a settlement, or just one per?

  • How long does it take to lose a settlement to an NPC? I understand that this is subject to change, but I'm curious at what the "working" timeframe is right now.

  • How often do you need to visit a settlement to prevent that?

#

I'm visiting my settlements tonight to test the first one, if no one can currently answer.

#

Also, I want to play with Othersouls tonight to test the power comparison a bit. In light testing, it looks like Othersouls would CRUSH typical players at lower tiers if heavily geared, but they'd find it more difficult at higher tiers. Likely due to class and accessory power increasing significantly at higher tiers, making the lack of them matter more?

I've been thinking about that. On my old adventure-paths, in one trip I could easily reclaim each Emperor spot and set the rewards, then hold it for a while. Maybe even take several OS spots, too, depending on if it's a small cluster of settlements. However, taking each spot would require more time. If you're moving at high speeds, yes, taking all the spots would take multiple trips, but the actual crown count you can get in a certain amount of time seems to be higher than territories. Nevermind that I can park in one spot, take 20 crowns without moving, and move on to the next spot. Taking 20 territories requires much more movement and time.

As an iPhone user, I hadn't had a chance to participate in the Beta until tonight. My first impressions are generally positive, but I have two complaints.

First, I don't like the random placement of settlements. One of the benefits of the old system is that the whole of the explored world had circles. You knew you could spawn new land in that brand-new subdivision. Very helpful for lower level players to snag some in a busy city. In this new system, I drove for over a mile and there wasn't a single settlement to be seen. Then, I found three of them in a single city block, so close the circles were almost touching. Territory control is hard enough without hunting around like we have to do for towers. If you can't have the same density as the legacy circles, that's fine. Make the circles bigger, but please keep some sort of fuller coverage with more even placement. Having no settlements in a town except the three on private property and two out in the lake is frustrating.

Second, I REALLY don't like the resetting of an opponent's HP if you fail in battle. Whittling down a higher tier player is how EVERY PvPer got their start. If you want lower level players to enjoy this aspect of the game, you can't reset a player's HP. The entire world will be covered in Gilgamesh turtles who will be unkillable in a single attempt and the stagnation will destroy end game. This would be a disaster if implemented this way.

One man's opinion...

Leaving the old system alone is the concern itself, and a bit disappointing for a few reasons;
A) To me, the way settlements are implemented in the overworld does not satisfy what territory control does. Settlement pvp is great but feels more aligned to Blades of Finesse than area/territory control
B) Anticipating improvements/upgrades to the old system, to instead have it become a legacy feature and no further improvements is disappointing. I mean it is what it is and I'll accept that while sharing feedback 😁
C) I can only assume its inevitable that participation in the old system will decline. That makes it less fun for me to engage with. I'm already feeling this myself. I've been participating less in regular Orna's territory control in anticipation of the system's overhaul.

opal vector
west plinth
#

I'd go as far as saying I would be fine with a complete reset of controlled areas, if it meant getting an upgraded system that exists in the world in a similar way, and thst we interact with in a similar way.

I'm all for having fewer overall areas for the reasons Odie previously mentioned along the lines of having fewer points of contest = higher competition in those spaces. But I'm super keen for them to exist in the world representing areas, which are able to be found in some kind of predictable manner

opal vector

I really think that's all that I don't like. The randomness, rather than representing real areas, and the lack of compensation for old territory.

It would achieve a more even distribution (similar to the legacy system) which means that you know where you can expect to find a settlement. That is important because there are still people who walk, run, or bike to play this game. Seeing a blank "hole" in the map in a new subdivision would normally get them walking down that street. Walking a mile down the street, but not finding a settlement would be very frustrating, as they put in the effort, but didn't get the expected reward.

Well, that depends on how they allow visibility and interaction with settlements. Right now, you can't see settlements beyond 400m if I am correct, so increased view distance would be useless if that stays to Live. How do settlements spawn? Not likely or at least not heavily lol. Not a huge fan of the randomization of settlements among other things... not that it's a bad system in itself, just not that enjoyable to me as it is. I wish the old system would have just been reworked. Settlements could be an entirely separate entity from the existing territory control. The option for both should exist still for new players. ie there shouldn't even be an option to have to choose from, just have both in the game, but not allowing any new players to opt into legacy has ultimately killed it entirely with time

You can excel in the game without alts. I'm not an alt player and I'm ranked 36(35) on global. And I've hardly touched the game for 3 months now to even hold that rank up. Outside of territory, pve has been nearly non existent for me

You need lvl 25 to join a kingdom. Albeit fast to hit the early tiers (because realistically most are not stopping at lvl 25 and have tiered alts for different dungeons), you still have to level up the kingdom for high tier raids, do wars, do gauntlets, do quests. Gear your alts well for success in wars otherwise what's the point? Quite a bit of time invested into alting for those that do it legitimately

desert zenith

It's handy to have one when you're between Kingdoms as you slowly accrue benefit. Being that territory holding will give you some minor benefits in terms of Florins if you're not that bothered by benefits with your main using alts benefits your tiny kingdom. That was my thinking. Anyway let's not get too off track. It's a sandbox and I don't see it as an arsehole move, after all it just levels the field with other attacking players of that tier and makes it harder for higher level tiers to use their other souls to kick you out.

Just making a very Quick try, and maybe this as been already answerd.

I made a new player, took 4 areas , then built the guild and choose Legacy.

While i still have 4 areas under control, my reputation Is 1

It seems that choosing Legacy doesn't only lock you out from past rewards, but also cancel all reputation values of areas?

62 crownships, 62 reputation.

If there’s already a count in the guild for how many settlements you have, that makes replacing reputation with them instead of showing both even more confusing to me

Seem a pretty big failure to merge the old system with the new one.

We could do with some clarity on what counts as PvP activities, and if there will be a settlement reputation as well as the old reputation, and/or what will happen to your reputation, in the different conversion modes. Clarity on these points would be great. Personally as much as I would like to jump right into the new system I won't until I hit Master Duke VIII but I feel sorry for anyone half way to X that's brutal.

I just received my daily rewards and got a Shrine of Luck. It launched immediately upon opening my rewards. This raises two issues for me.

  1. I understand that the idea behind a shrine was always that you would go to a fixed place and get a "blessing". However, the shrines are so important in the game, that NF offered them for sale, as well. In both of these cases, the player can choose when to activate a shrine and will normally do so when there is an hour available to play the game.

In this case, players are on a 23-hour clock and must collect their rewards in that one-hour timeframe or be forced to delay their rewards, thereby missing out on rewards they would normally get. This makes the shrines of luck virtually useless for most people with jobs, families, or anything else in their lives besides 100% free time to play Orna. People won't want to miss out on the currencies, materials, orns, and gold by waiting for hours on the chance they MIGHT get a shrine or two... so they will go unused.

#
  1. What happens in cases where a player sets his settlements to supply as many shrines as possible? If I have 1000 settlements and set up 200 of those to reward me with a shrine, do I get 200 shrines? Would this get me 200 hours of shrine boosts? ...or would I only get 1 hour of XP and Luck and not get compensated for the other 198 settlements?

Opinion: I wish that the "Shrine of Luck" that you buy and receive in rewards were actually a "Token of Luck" that would go into your inventory. This would generate the exact same buff, so that you couldn't stack them with Shrines of Luck. There could be an in-game limit (5 to 10?) to prevent abuse of this idea. Now, this does raise questions, such as: "How many hours of buff would be the daily limit, after which you would have to buy or find them?" But, self-triggering buffs definitely create frustration and reduce settlement rewards as they are currently implemented. I like the idea of getting rewarded with buffs, but the self-triggering aspect really needs to be addressed.

If players are not in the position to use their chosen rewards, does it make sense to opt-in to them by setting their settlements to that reward structure?

#

A few players have requested that rewards be once/timezone day rather than 23 hour clock. imo, that would address this better

lean hearth
# serene dirge If players are not in the position to use their chosen rewards, does it make sen...

If you continue with the 23-hour cooldown, most players will not want to miss out on orns, materials, and other rewards... so dedicated players will choose a particular time of day and set an alarm for it. If a player were to miss this window and delay the reward for 10 hours, it would take 10 days to slowly drag this window back to where it was. If they didn't do that, eventually, they would be skipping a day and losing out on those rewards. So, they won't delay their rewards so they can use the buff.

In the legacy system, this wasn't a problem as the game would reward you once per time zone day as long as you logged in (as you suggest above). However, if you add shrines to this mix, you would now be prevented from logging into the game at all for any reason until you can use your buff. You couldn't address a notification that someone was taking your land, or respond to a notification that a Kingdom War had started or even check the stats on a piece of gear without losing any shrine reward for that day.

My point is that self-triggering buffs are usually not a reward at all, since a player will only use that buff if they have an hour to themselves. Preventing a player from logging in to preserve a buff reward is frustrating. Triggering a buff when a player can't use it is frustrating.

I can't count the number of times I log into Orna in the course of a day for just a few minutes. If I have to wait until I have an hour or more available to trigger that buff, I just don't see that as a useful reward.

#

Now... if your suggestion is that you would still have to press a button to claim rewards, BUT that could be anywhere within a time zone day... that actually might help to address my concerns.

#

You wouldn't be guaranteed a shrine, but you could at least choose the time when you'd have an hour to make any potential shrine useful.

#

As a level 250, the Shrines of Wisdom are useless to me. Only the Shrines of Luck have value. Will a player only get a single shrine with this system? Again, if I set up 200 settlements with shrine rewards, would it be possible to get both Wisdom and Luck?

spark glade
#

Caelani is spot on in their concern.
Setting it up so you can get your rewards once per day rather than a 23 hour timer would be fantastic. I am not a fan of the 23 hour timer at all. I’ve had the exact issue they’ve mentioned with stuff like my mnemonics in early days when I didn’t have many of them to spare. Having to work around that timer for optimal gains is not fun.
A token of whatever shrine would be a fun idea as well, though I understand why that might not be a suitable option. But I’m in agreement that self triggering buffs are kinda meh overall

Can we get any comment on the reputation situation? Knowing how many areas you have and working to improve that is maybe the biggest motivation point of the old territory system. If reputation only refers to settlements controlled, anyone that stays with the legacy system will be unable to know how many areas they own ever again

For legacy players, reputation is the larger of the two counts - areas vs settlements

Honestly I don't like the idea of it being a once a day thing, it would be way to easy to allow some "extra motivated" person in my area to go around say one to two hours before daily reset and take all my spots just to win more rewards. By allowing me time to claim when I want to I could try to go take stuff and then turn in, or retake stuff if necessary. But we don't know how long we have to hold before we get rewards either so there is that.

jolly sable

that's the current system

the proposed system that odie mentioned is, on daily reset, you can claim it whenever

#

so you could hypothetically double-claim at 23:59 and 00:00, if you managed to forget to claim it all day

pulsar spear

I like the idea of claiming 1 time per day and if you wanted to double claim it would be every other day anyway right?

Tee hee

pulsar spear
#

There is the UTC 00:00 Sunday Night for weekly reset, the same for Monument rewards then I think there is some stuff that is local midnight like daily login rewards and daily quests

#

And now we have 12:00 EST for event resets so the NF team doesn't have to stay up all night to watch when things roll over

#

So all that to say, as long as I can "turn in" when I would like to daily that's ok by me

unreal lily
#

The hope would be that the calculation is done at some fixed time (like 00:00 UTC).
Then you can claim at any time in the next day, to receive the stuff already calculated.

||That would incentivize taking territory just before 00:00 UTC, but seems like a minor effect if people have hundreds of settlements.||

pulsar spear
#

Depends on any type of CD or "hold-time" to maximize the rewards. I don't know if it's still the same but there was a test I did taking 3 crownships and tried to claim rewards right after where I got nothing. - May have to test that again

#

Not sure I want to be driving around at night (having wife drive me) to maximize that either for sure

unreal lily
#

I'm saying "the hope", not talking about what exists right now.

Would you really drive around right before 00:00 UTC calculation time just to claim +10 settlements? 🤔
Or maybe calculation time could be something like... 5p in each timezone, calculated per timezone.

spark glade
#

Wouldn’t that just have the same proposed issue but put at a different time of day?

unreal lily
# spark glade Wouldn’t that just have the same proposed issue but put at a different time of d...

Which is the issue to solve?

Fixed calculation time -> allows for people to snipe settlements right before calculation
Loose calculation time -> allows people to double-claim settlements (e.g. personA takes settlement and claims at 9a, personB retakes and claims at 10a, both get rewards)

I think the claim time is the important change -- people don't want to login to an hour shrine if they can't immediately use it, and they don't want to risk missing daily claims nor do they want to shift everything forward on a 23hr timer.

spark glade
#

I’m all for having it be done daily rather than a 23 hour timer. But if there was a universal reset time (Like 5pm as you mentioned) then I feel it’d just have the same issue as people waiting for the daily reset but at a different time of day. Both have the same problem

#

Both options you said above, a loose calculation and a fixed calculation, are better than the current 23 hour timer however

opal vector

If there are 5 different people in each of the Crowns, could you theoretically take your rewards, then change the reward choice, and then another person could choose to take theirs? Thus, getting different rewards for different people?

So far we are hearing 2 hour CD - if it works like territory where it's a universal CD - it may not be worth trying to alt it up too much
