I'm talking from an animators POV:
Only use lines/smear images if there's a large gap between the placement of where the object/body part will start and end.
If you do it with small motions, it'll make the animation look choppy.

I really like the designs overall, but I think Sans's face needs to be rounder. I also think Papyrus would look better in maroon. Overall, this is pretty awesome. Keep it up!
