Personally for me, VH was sadder than R, because... Well, even though some Henry's abilities and the fact that he's main character, i never liked him more than Charles. Charles is sometimes stupid and he's the worst teammate ever, but anyways, he is cute, funny and has got something special — his plans are perfect.

For me it's Revenged, at the time when i played flash games i didn't play them in order and i didn't know about ItA, i kinda grew playing Henry Stickmin games, and when i played FtC for the first time i kinda saw him like an incompetent idiot.
Then THSC came, i didn't know much but when i heard the name "Henry Stickmin" the memories flew back about the flash games. After 100% BtB, EtB and i saw "Infiltrating the Airship". I was confused since i didn't remember that at all, so i clicked and.. I got a ton of context about the what at the time i played FtC i called Hat Gang (Toppats) and Charles, i got more attached to him since he wasn't just an idiot to me but a funny idiot, then i arrived at CtM, the VH ending made me sad because Charles was funny, and idiot but still funny, Revenged on the other hand made me actually cry and i was in complete denial for about two weeks and even then i could barely accept that Henry was dead, that's my opinion about it.
TL;DR: Revenged it's sadder for me since i never played ItA until THSC got released

The scene with Charles dying was actually the first piece of context I had for CtM. After seeing more stuff about it I was like... “hey it’s that game that Markiplier played about the guy who steals stuff”. I watched the whole route being like “ok don’t get attached to him”, but that backfired because he’s so darn likable. I was pretty happy when I found out there was more than one ending.

So basically my theory is that all the endings are different timelines, and all the fails end the timeline in a specific way. When you get the multiverse imbalance ending, I think that all the timelines are merged, erased, then sent back to when Henry was in prison. Hence why he gets a cake from the future.
