Oh boy… the problem with the whole "start = ban" thing is that it ignores the fact that lobbies aren't just numbers on a screen, they are people. If the host is mid-sentence, or if there aren't even 15 players yet, spamming “start” isn't helping anyone, it's just annoyance. Kicking for spamming ain't really that harsh, but honestly it keeps the lobby from devolving into madness. And Eth, I get your point (a slight bit), with hosts who do drag it out way too long once everyone is clearly ready, but there is a HUGE difference between waiting 10 minutes and waiting 15 seconds.

That's where the real disconnect is here: you're treating both like the same situation when they aren't. A ready-check system would actually solve this and remove the ego power struggles entirely, but until then, "just have patience for a few seconds" is the more reasonable take. Nobody's credibility or ego should be wrapped up in pressing the start button.

If it's really just one "start" and the host instantly bans, that says way more about the host's "attitude" than it does about the system itself. But rallying the whole lobby to essentially kick the host the second a meeting starts basically trades one overreaction for another. At that point the game hasn't even begun and everyone's already wasting a meeting on drama instead of playing.

And it's not really "fair for fair" if all it does is replace one person's control trip with another group's desired revenge trip, if you so much to dislike it then go leave & join another lobby instead of getting rid of the Host entirely because 9 times out of 10, I've never seen or heard anyone try that tactic until now.

"are we starting soom?" "can we start please?" (during a lull in conversation and/or if full for SEVERAL seconds, not one second) "we aren't in danger of the room closing, are we?" or something similar... totally different story. that is polite. that will never get banned or kicked.

i DO agree that the hosts who force everyone to wait all the way until the last possible instant for some stupid power trip are stupid. but lumping every single host who is just plain fed up with rudeness and chaos of "starters" in with those a-hole hosts is a stretch too far.

and i run banmod. try to get me kicked from my own lobby, and you will never have to worry about seeing me ever again. nor will i ever have to worry about seeing you.

and you know what? i enjoy my nightly games. else i would have stopped a long time ago. and new people join my server all the time

I disagree; saying "start" isn't rude in itself because, y'know, people wanna play the game. But it is rude when players continually say to start the game even though the host is very clearly doing something else. If we're not going to immediately start, I tell my players to wait, because as a host my one job is to be the person that hosts the lobby, not to prune it until it's cleansed of disgusting start goblins™.

The relationship between inexperienced players and those who ask to start is tangential. We—as experienced players—know not to say start because we're conditioned not to in case hosts enforce an immediate ban for doing so, but a guideline that strict is seldom necessary for a lobby to function, and in many cases detrimental to its lifespan.

On the other hand, public lobby players mostly only care about the game which can lead them to be disrespectful towards lobby hosts, and I understand how simply saying "start" without any type of decorum can seem rude—but again, they came to play; if the host simply must take priority, then why are they able to be kicked when the game starts? The host also needs to behave well if they want to preserve their lobby, and players' tolerances for whatever the host enforces are variable. As such, enforcing "start → ban" does not indicate that the person hosting is levelheaded; it portrays them as an elite—a hoity-toity "only the good ones are allowed" type of person. It's no different than banning players for simply looking like newbies.

I don't ban players until they play games with me. If they throw games consistently or are rude, that's when they're gone. Give players a chance, and don't act on stigmas without reasoning, because players won't understand why you act that way.

Also, per the second paragraph, please take long breaks, it might help with your lack of patience 😭🙏

What it really comes down to is balance. A good lobby runs on a mix of patience n' momentum - too much of either, and people stop wanting to stay. The danger with turning “start” into some battleground is that it distracts from the actual goal, which is keeping players engaged long enough to play more than one round.

If every small friction point escalates into bans or retaliatory vote-kicks, the lobby falls under its own drama. The most reasonable approach isn't to enforce rigid rules or to rally against the host, you need to recognize that public games only last when both sides compromise a little. That's why I see the bigger problem as a lack of restraint: the more every action gets treated like a provocation, the less sustainable the lobby becomes.

i actually dont "know not to say start" because i almost exclusively play in my lobbies or a friends lobbies 😎 but yeah my view on it is if someone repeatedly asks lobby host to do something without giving a reason (LITERALLY anything lobby host exclusive- changing settings, starting the game, banning/kicking a player, changing lobby rules) after the host has given their reason for NOT changing it, then that is worth a ban to me

my rule boils down to "if i think the lobby would be better off without you, you are gone", specific things that cause that are just taking away from the atmosphere i want (calm, logical, and communicative environment- you dont need to be of a certain intelligence or anything, just if you take away from the environment im looking for, i will ban you)

Its a Peaceful game experience mod, that can stop people Who are keep saying start or saying im leaving, etc.

It also have BanList, which people cannot rejoin if they joined again. Even there is modded Roles i think. If you're Host, you can change the settings including Banmod settings like Enable AFK, Modded Roles, Host Settings, and Kick/Ban Settings.

There is also including General Settings.

Its like almost the same of modded lobbies anyways.

you can turn off like all of the features- i personally just installed it now so i can actually do things i have been wanting to do forever (end meetings if one guy is afk, kick someone if they are being extremely disruptive or obviously teaming or HACKING, and in my opinion a very important one - MAKING BANNED PEOPLE STAY BANNED

theres not really any cheats unless you consider being able to moderate midgame cheats, outside of that its just the non-biased addons

The Impostor odds are just pure RNG, so streaks, (whether it's back-to-back Imps or 50 games as Crew), are just statistical quirks, not anything you can just… “fix.” The game doesn't try to balance it across players, so sometimes you just end up on a hot streak or a drought, and that's normal.

As for being nervous as Imp, leaning on things like cams or common crew behavior can work, but you don't want to get stuck looking too passive either, eventually people notice you never push the game forward. A lot of strong Imp play isn't about killing constantly, you have to think about pacing yourself: finding the right moment when suspicion is low, pulling off a clean move, and then sliding back into “crew-like habits”. If you can keep that rhythm, you'll stop feeling the pressure to “perform” every second and instead focus on blending in.

Expert lobbies (my lobbies included) don’t really wait or give a chance for you to learn, and that’s totally okay

If ur imp, try to NOT stay (camp) in cams, makes it obvious ur imp
If you’re ss, make sure to sab light BEFORE you shift, makes it easier to shift, when u kill as a ss, try to kill a person with not too many ppl around them, if ur in a lobby with someone smart, you might still get voted, cuz usually they’d keep in mind everyone and where they were

I had no idea what was happening but the chat was going insane, I checked on it and verbalase here was talking something nsfw about charlie, she doesn't know him and really just wanted to play, in the other hand verbalase just stared talking more to the point I think he's just trolling

it continued more for a bit and then out of nowhere, the savage maroon just dropped in the chat "verbalase get the [f-bomb] out of here", then moments later the host banned him for that

everyone was laughing in the chat as well as the host for doing the right thing, it was also the time charlie thanked maroon and the host for doing that
at the same time everyone agreed to report him for talking inappropriately in the chat to get his well deserved karma. I still think about it to this day and it still makes me chuckle.
