I think the whole "best map" thing really depends on a lot of things.

A "best map" should probably cover every single aspect of the game perfectly, no matter player count, roles or not, or even gamemode.

And there's no map that covers every single aspect perfectly (Polus is too big for 6 players, and is not that good for Hide and Seek).

A 20-player format with 3 impostors wouldn’t just make the map feel alive - it would actually utilize the space it’s designed for. You’re not surrounded constantly, you’re just not spending half the round wandering hallways and hoping to bump into literally anyone. Isolation should create tension, not disconnection. But on Airship, half the time you don’t even know a murder happened because nobody ever crosses paths. That’s not a “unique feel,” that’s a disengaged round with no social deduction.

So while your idea of isolation = uniqueness can work on smaller maps like Mira (where sightlines and venting make it dynamic), on Airship it just exposes how thin the player spread is. Add more players, and then you’ll start to feel the kind of “proper isolation” you’re talking about - because suddenly, space becomes meaningful again.

Low player count on Airship means you’re doing tasks alone in huge sections of the map with no one around. That kills tension. You can’t clear anyone, see anything, or catch sus behavior. Tasks are way too spaced out for that.

But with more players - like 18 to 20 - you actually see people. Kills have more risk, info flows better, and strategy actually matters. Isolation doesn’t mean better gameplay when it turns the map into a ghost town.

You’re not wrong. But that’s exactly why I push for higher player counts on Airship. It actually bridges those two playstyles better. Crewmates aren’t wandering empty halls for minutes with zero info, and impostors aren’t forced to hail-mary every kill hoping no one’s watching.

You get denser traffic, but with Airship’s size, there’s still space to maneuver. It’s not about tipping the scale one way - it’s about giving both sides the tools to actually play smart.

Finally, some middle ground. That’s fair - roles do help fill in the gaps on Airship and keep players engaged, especially with how spread out everything is.
Without them, it’s way too easy for the map to feel like a ghost town, and half the lobby ends up walking simulator-ing to the next task. Roles bring that extra layer of activity the base map can’t hold on its own.

A few thoughts:
An early meta that will be tried but ultimately fall flat is "okay. Imps just dont fix sabs and target kill anyone who does". This will fail because it gives crew too much information in the name of trying to find your partner.

Phantom is the best role in this hypothetical mode. Phantom is both able to find his partner easily (imps act like imps when they believe they are alone) and tell his partner that "hey, I am your partner" by just appearing in front of him.

The risk of unshifting in front of of large crowd is insidious.

Yeah, that’s the pain of text lobbies - if you’re not fast at typing or you’re stuck with a trigger-happy crowd, you’re basically guilty until proven innocent, and even then it’s a gamble.
Voice chat definitely gives you the edge to clarify things, read tone, and actually defend yourself beyond just “it’s not me.”
In text, people tunnel on colors or vibes way too hard, and it turns into a silent trial with no room to speak.

Voice is superior IMO and proximity voice (BetterCrewLink) is even better, but each have their pros and cons. Discord VC typically means voice is only used during meetings, so there's no coordinated killing or grouping up. Proximity Voice can lead to imposters having better coordination for kills as they can talk during the round, but it can also lead to people grouping up as they "chat" during the round, so kills can be harder to come by.

Hosting a normal Text Chat only Among Us lobby is a nightmare. Your settings are typically trying to herd players to not just instavote the moment voting opens, "self report" accusations are so unusually effective that expert hosts feel the need to ban selfreporting altogether just to get some semblance of sanity (btw dont ban selfreports, you should be aggressively banning players who do this behavior of baseless selfreport accusing instead)

Fair, though I wouldn’t go as far as saying self-report bans are never understandable - but yeah, banning a legit game mechanic to compensate for poor player behavior isn’t really a solution.
If your lobby can’t handle the idea of a self-report without spiraling into chaos, that’s not a self-report issue - it’s a player discipline issue.

VC makes it easier to talk things out fast, sure, but in text lobbies, people either skim-read or lock into assumptions with no info.
The answer isn’t over-policing mechanics like self-reports; it’s setting clear expectations and being willing to boot people who treat every meeting like a race to throw blame.

that's a tricky one. red-ish colors will usually go well w it in my opinion. Stay away from light colors mostly, bc cyan is a light color and if paired with other lights it will look flat/boring/have no contrast
