That usually just shows up when the game fails to load a player’s name or info properly, like a bugged-out username.
The color thing and everyone getting booted probably just means the lobby glitched or someone with a bad connection (or a modded client) caused a desync. It’s not lore, it’s just Among Us being buggy.

It’s just the default fallback value. When the server lags or bugs out during player load-in, it temporarily assigns a generic color (usually dark green) and name placeholder like “???” until the full data kicks in. If the game crashes or desyncs before that finishes, it sticks that way.
Nothing mysterious - just spaghetti netcode doing what it does best.

Tracker’s solid if you wanna sniff out movement, but yeah - you’re not getting tasks done anytime soon. Engineer’s dope for clears, but one wrong vent and you’re instantly sus. Scientist’s cool if you’re glued to vitals early on, but once that battery hits zero? You’re basically useless. Guardian Angel’s a coin toss - either you save the game or your protection gets ignored.

Shapeshifter’s fun but risky - gotta mimic people perfectly or you’re toast. Phantom’s a wildcard - but it feels great when you win, but most times someone happens to bump into you mid-task and you’re instantly out.

Noisemaker’s underrated, honestly - amazing for baiting imps, but makes you public enemy #1 fast. And for the classic Impostor? Still hits hard if you’re smart and the crew’s sloppy.

Yeah, I feel that. People love slamming the meeting button the second they see a vent - no context, no thought, just full panic. Like bruh, Engineer exists, and if you’re in a lobby where it’s enabled, you can’t treat every vent like it’s auto-suspicion.
What makes it worse is when they expect you to call the meeting to explain yourself, and if you don’t, you’re sus for “hiding it.”

But realistically, revealing Engineer instantly just puts a target on your back, especially when impostors are still stacked and no one’s died yet. I’d rather wait, track movements, see who reacts weird, and then make a solid play. Trigger-happy meetings kill flow and burn info before it even builds.

How I treat venting (with a suitable number of potential Engineers) is simply as information. It's perfectly fine to say you saw someone vent. That's info. Not info to eject someone on right away, but now for the crew to be aware of. If numbers get too low and no one else is suspicious, you have the info 'Hey, you know, this guy can vent...'

As for revealing, I think it should always be the player's own choice whether or not to reveal their crewmate role at any time. It's a trade-off. Announcing early grants you higher trust. People know what you are and what to expect of you. The flip side is you also told imps what you can do, and they may seek you out as a priority target.

Imps, of course, should have freedm to fake a role at any time. Early "reveal" means you need to keep up the charade longer, but done well it grants you that same higher trust.

That’s a fair way to put it, but from my end - venting in public lobbies with Engineer enabled honestly walks a razor-thin line between “info” and “instant sus,” even if the logic is sound. Yeah, sure, in theory, saying “I saw someone vent” is just putting something on the table, but in practice? It always sparks chaos because most players still run with that old-school mindset where vents = impostor, period. Doesn’t help that a lot of them don’t check the role settings or don’t trust Engineers unless there’s visual proof.

As for role reveals, I agree it should be the player’s call, but we also have to accept how that reveal is received. Saying you’re Engineer in the first meeting sounds like a trust play, but 9 times outta 10 in sweaty or low-trust lobbies, it backfires - either you get killed next round by impostors, or you’re hard-cleared so fast that it warps the rest of the crewmates’ logic tree.
I’ve legit watched impostors coast just because everyone tunneled on “well Red said they were Engineer and didn’t die yet.” On the flip side, impostors using early reveals as a fake claim? Absolutely valid, but also risky. because if another person comes forward with that same claim and has even slightly stronger timing or movement reads, it’s over.

So yeah, venting is info, but let’s not pretend it’s treated neutrally in most matches. The social meta’s too unstable for that.

Exactly! Thank you. That’s the part that always blows my mind. We’re years into these roles being in the game, and SOME people still treat vents like it’s 2020 vanilla Among Us. You’ve got Engineers toggled on in the settings, but then people hit the button like “GUYS THEY VENTED” and expect a unanimous vote. Like… do you even know what lobby you joined?

What makes it worse is that most of those button-pushers never even check role counts before accusing. If there’s 2 Engineers in play and no one’s died yet, what even is that accusation supposed to prove? It’s one thing if you catch someone venting repeatedly or in places that make zero sense for an Engineer to path through - but randomly panic-hitting the button over one vent sighting with no body, no movement tracking, no logic? That’s just amateur. You’re nuking meetings for attention, not deduction.

Visuals off or not, we’ve got roles now. People gotta adjust to that reality or stop joining non-Classic lobbies.

Cosmicubes are 100% optional and only impact how your character looks. They don’t give any kind of advantage, extra roles, or gameplay buffs. You unlock most of them just by playing and earning beans or pods, and only a few cost actual money. It’s not pay-to-win, it’s pay-for-cosmetic.

And honestly, games need some form of monetization if we want updates, servers, and support to keep running. Among Us has no ads, no subscriptions, and a small team - cosmetics are how they stay afloat. It’s really not that deep unless someone’s just mad they can’t get everything instantly.

it's a random semi rare glitch. usually caused by being in the vent at the end of the previous round. someone with the vent clean task goes and cleans that vent, and the game thinks you're still there for whateve reason and drags you back to the vent, even if you're somewhere else entirely
