whenever I'm in a lobby on Mira HQ with a decent crew, the consensus is almost always to kick/ban players that make stupid decisions

because, for one, it's hard to teach them in the game because you're trying to play, but when you tell them important fundamentals of the game within the lobby, it's a gamble whether they'll understand why they need to do that

personally, in my public lobbies I ban people for snitching as well as making terrible decisions, but it's gotten to the point where I think I may have to start banning people that vote others out simply for venting

they don't ask how many engineers the host has added to the game because they have a false impression—which nothing anyone has uploaded about Among Us could impose on them, it's just them—that there is always a fixed amount of a role. it's not that simple, yellow crewmate with a crown

whenever an angel protects near me, I simply run to that person and remove the shield so they aren't an issue later 👍

I also keep noisemaker duration at 3 seconds; easy to miss, but also gives the crew a brief notifier and the impostor ample time to get away

Settings also affect how SS would play, so, if you're hosting, maybe nerfing it would make it less annoying.

Yeah, on paper, I don't mind letting Shapeshifter shine with infinite duration. On paper, every moment you're shapeshifted is a moment you're not seen by others, creating its own balancing.

In practice, if you have Shapeshifter on 1x/10% with 10s duration and evidence on, every single freaking time someone sees another person kill, the defense will be "it was shapeshifter

The power of Shapeshifter isn't the shifter themselves.

The power of shapeshifter is giving the NON shapeshifters the easiest, most low-effort way to say "nuh-uh" and derail the entire meeting to be about seeing who it could NOT be rather than focusing on the one that was seen killing and seeing if they have a trustworthy alibi.

I like the "I'm engineer" defense for venting because Engineer is fun and useful for both crewmates and impostors.

I've grown to dislike Shapeshifter because the "It was SS" defense derails entire meetings with the same exact excuse on repeat, and is only fun for imps.

It's not the shapeshifter I dislike. It's the no-effort excuse it creates that I dislike.

Some time ago I used to nerf SS A LOT, I'm talking 15s duration with 30s cooldown, leaves evidencie.

The rare moments where I get SS, I try to shift AWAY from vents to avoid this specific thing.
But eng can also counter by following and/or stalking in vents.

Or just calling comms or lights.

whenever I kill with shapeshifter, I always do so with other impostors helping so that I can simply act as a looming threat. I go into a specific place every round immediately (on Mira HQ it's storage while lights are turned off), and then immediately kill someone the moment cooldown ends, whether it be at office if the lights are still off, or somewhere else

the crew basically gets no time to act upon it and even less time to start eliminating suspicions because the rounds go by too fast

Noisemaker is global vitals that points everyone in the direction of the kill. In certain circumstances this results in you just losing on the spot but you can usually work around it.

Take Splatoon's Splatfests. Traditionally they're Team X vs Team Y. But when they added a 3rd idol, it's not Team X vs Team Y plus Neutrals. It's Team X vs Team Y vs Team Z

They're not NEUTRAL if they are actively trying to WIN in a way where the others LOSE. Neutral is Can win with anyone else. Not Can win ALONE.

Whoever decided that Team X vs Team Y vs Team Z meant that Team Z was a neutral party deserves a big sticker, and so do all the others that went along with it.

Meeting neutral roles are a vote that neither team can use: Jester wants themselves ejected so they aren't likely to help crew. Executioner wants their target voted.
Lawyer is stupid. Lawyer with an impostor client is just an imp with no abilities other than being a vote and a voice for team imp.

I can probably go on and on but neutral roles add unnecessary volatility to games they are in.

always prioritize killing those that can be cleared. the less clear crewmates there are, the better, and the same goes for roles. scientist is the role with the tamest possible impostor interaction, so killing them isn't entirely necessary until the endgame. however, roles such as engineer and tracker are the most dangerous—especially on maps such as Mira HQ and Polus—so killing them is also important. bonus points if you're shapeshifter, since you can kill without being discreet under the guise of another crewmate.

Private lobbies want good little sheepies purposely all alone to slaughter and it kind of softens them as imps. Public lobbies may be less intelligent overall, but they're violent against impostors, so they're better for sharpening imp skills.

Practice being imp in public. Take what you learn to private. There's how you get better as imp.

As crewmate... Public will let you off the leash. Private will put you in a cage if you don't behave in a way that helps impostors out.

one of my largest grievances with this game is its lack of discretion with many of the mechanics in the game, especially disconnecting; with server disconnecting becoming far more frequent again, the game is tallying up how many times you've disconnected within a certain threshold under certain conditions, which adds up to the "intentional disconnecting" tally regardless of the error thrown. the least that should be done is to have the game should be able to distinguish when disconnecting is done by leaving the game and when it is done due to an error, because being banned from playing online for several minutes at a time because I got disconnected thrice from three different servers is… annoying

People ragequits if they don't get Impostor, and they will STILL ragequit if they get caught.
