If I were designing pure competitive with not all roles on, I'd set it up

• 4+ Engineers at low odds (Venting is info, not an automatic accuse. No free accuses from an imp's blunder. Also buffs Comms sabotage, a practically useless sabotage without roles)
• Phantom or SS depending on the map. Phantom for Skeld/Mira, and SS for Polus/Airship/Fungle. They can be 100% that's fine. SS has to have evidence on.
• 1x Guardian Angel. Not enough to block every imp's kill, but enough to make a blundered vote on an important number alive have more tension instead of an automatic imp win. Imps see protect stays off, so that imps can't just avoid every shielded cremate in favor of an unshielded.

For super competitive, Tracker, Scientist, and Noisemaker can stay off. Scientist especially is way overpowered once one imp is out, and even before hand is a monster at making clears in the right hands. A bit too strong if you've got a group of sweaty players.

I feel that the more competitive the better the game is. Guardian Angel, Tracker, and Noisemaker are all highly uncompetitive roles.
What does it mean for a role to be uncompetitive? Simply put it's how you answer the question "okay, with this role in play how badly do I get punished for trying to play normally like the role isn't in play and if I do get punished is there a way to meaningfully play around it that isn't crippling?"
Example: A single balanced engineer (med-high cd with short time allowed in vents) is not uncompetitive, if the lobby has it set to low-med odds (which it should) they can't outright claim it for a clear and it's super unlikely they can use it to catch a kill or imp venting and if they try to do that it's easy to get super punished.

Multi engi runs into the problem of okay if we have multi engi even on low odds there is now a chance that okay, I get to deal with 4 engineers when I get imp and when I'm crew we get zero engineers. It's too high variance.

You need some variance. But too much variance is uncompetitive because you can't form a gameplan that could fall to bad RNG

Any living crewmate role set to 1x is a bad idea for competitive. It makes it too risky for imps to fake if someone is silent about having it, and a free hard clear the moment they claim it.

That's why control the amount of spawns with low odds, not low hard caps

Eng provides a possible out that sometimes works out though. Either the eng is already dead or the eng never spawned but the possibility of eng keeps you alive despite getting caught out or you get unlucky in which case you were cooked anyways.

It's an unreliable out though to discourage leaning into it. Imps should be trying to sneak around.

I don't think 4x 10% engineer is better because it can encourage bad play and again crew can highroll into a lot of engineers which is possibly a negative.

we've been playing with 5 engie at 30% for a couple years at this point. we get on average 2... and some of us DO still hide it... because certain others of us will instantly kill said engineer once its found out... AHEM

Detective freakin claims it so he will live till later in the game. then like round 4 or something when it's nearing a vital vote number he's like "i'm not really noisemaker, i'm tracker, i tracked so-and-so and they went right to where the body was found and then immediately ran away. back the way they came"

meh. i usually do polus/airship/fungle. .55 vision 1.3 speed ||don't ask. i have magic || 27.5 KCD on polus 30 on airship/fungle visuals confirms off and anon votes. if i have enough to fill privately without any guests i'll do skeld and mira at 25 KCD. near max tasks, or max, depending how fast crew is doing em.

someone coming in and summarily demanding i up the speed, lower the meeting time, up the speed, and add impostors is a daily occurance. sometimes several times in a day.

along with at least 1-2 non english speakers who refuse to leave even after you say to them that it's an english lobby. even when i've translated to whatever they speak and make it clear that they have to be able to understand and speak english because we actually discuss the murders 99.9% of the time they just sit there. i have to either kick them, or put up with a game of them not understanding a word of what's going on and voting whatever they feel like without discussion.

Let’s say you have a role that does literally nothing. Call it STRMISS. It’s at 1x/10%

You get the screen saying your role is STRMISS.

Imp tries to blend in with the Crewmates by claiming they’re the STRMISS. It’s such a low odds to spawn, surely that’s safe!

Except nope. YOU are the STRMISS. So you can call them out on that. There can be no other STRMISS. Vote you both. 100% an imp is gone.

Now flip that. You claim your STRMISS role. Imp has 2 options. They can counterclaim and say you’re lying because they are the STRMISS. Congratulations, you both get voted and imp just outed themselves.

Second option, is to say nothing and accept you’re now hard clear. Because there cannot be a second STRMISS, and no one counterclaimed.

A living crewmate role at 1x max is functionally equivalent to a visual task. Playing with any living crewmate role at 1x is to be okay with one crewmate having a built-in visual task.

I usually anticipate getting black screen when the load bar goes beyond 60%, most times the load percentage gets anywhere between 25 to 45 and we load in fine, anything above 60 for me has usually lead to black screen however there was one time it got to 100 and it loaded perfectly fine so it’s not fixed ig

i have a smol mod that borrows code from some of the host mods to give me a blacklist/whitelist and better kick features... it has an "end game early" button. i use that the rare times my game blackscreens. game ends, and everyone goes back to lobby, and noone gets the penalty

mid game disconnects have been happening a lot, yes, but they kinda always have. the thing i'm noticing rn that didn't used to be as bad, is if i'm playing on my phone, and i get the 6ping error, i CAN'T just log back in.. it will tell me "authentication error" 100% of the time now, and i have to close the game completely, swipe away the background process, and start it up again from scratch... it didn't used to be anywhere near that bad

• Kill Distance Medium: Anything other than short has imps killing through walls. That's annoying.
• TaskBar Updates Always: Bad. Meetings is better because it allows imps to fake tasks more effectively.
• Confirms On: Removes mystery and forces impostors to turn on their teammates when they didn't need to with them off.
• Anon Votes off: See above.
• Visual Tasks: free hard clears, forces imps to not fake those tasks. Especially bad on Skeld.

Imposters will be able to talk to each other throughout the game without any crewmates being able to see it, this will help imposters plan, and will make it so they aren't going around blindly, and to where they don't just have to trust that the other imps are decently smart.

Impostors at the very highest skill level are extremely coordinated without the need for communication because they both have an understanding of what roles they are playing and what needs to be done at any given point in time.
All that being said imp chat has been tried with mods.
Imp chat during gameplay? Too much. Imp chat during meetings? Barely leaves an impact you wonder why it exists.

i'm looking for 10 to 15 friends to play in a completely private lobby with in the afternoons/evenings.

playing in random, public lobbies can be frustrating so i would like a group of friends that will play multiple rounds with me and also ones that we can change the role settings and map without everyone all of a sudden being confused and leaving.

this will be a very good way to learn maps while playing with people though because ik there's the freeplay u can do to practice the maps but i think i learn the map better when i play with actual people.

but if we play a map that we aren't use to there will be less tasks to do since we'll probably get lost finding our tasks and looking at the map takes time but as we get better at the map together, we'll add more tasks.

also playing shapeshifter in random lobbies especially when not everyone checks the settings can be annoying, I'd like to play with people who know the lobby settings so ppl can't lie about the settings cuz i find that annoying.

roles are fun to play with in among us as long as everyone knows what the roles actually are and also the roles have to be set up so neither the crew nor the imposters have too much powers with their roles cuz that can be unfair and chaotic.

Imagine noticing a player standing still an awful lot for no reason because they are using imp chat frequently.

my personal idea for limitation is tying imp chat directly to dead crewmates. Whenever a crewmate dies you are and your partner gain (number of dead crewmates) messages to send in imp chat.

So the first dead crewmate only lets you send 1. But the fourth dead crewmate lets you send 4 in addition to any you have banked previously and not used yet.

Imps are still weak early this way but can ramp very fast into the endgame.

(I got this idea from vent clean. The OG idea: a player has vent clean in lower, asks for help, and an imp pretending to be engi says they will help. They “flirt” and then the meeting ends… only for a new one to be called like 30 minutes later—in game time—with the body of the player who had vent clean.)
