yeah, the roles are like recessive but common traits. due to phantoms not being able to kill while invisible, theyre rarer than shifters. both abilities take intense physical tolls on the body and must be managed carefully, or they can fall into severe chronic illnesses that affect their quality of life.

for shifters, the rule of thumb is that they can shapeshift into any adult bean that they've seen, i.e they can look at a picture of taylor swift and then shift into her.

of course they can only stay shifted for as long as they can tolerate it, and its important to note that if a shifter shifts into someone who's the opposite gender or size as them, that it can wreck their body a lot faster. and harder forms can generate a few imperfections, so sometimes practice is needed.

I'm planning on writing the backstory of an OC of mine, the captain i talked about earlier.

She turned into an impostor at 19 after clearing basic MIRA officer training and worked her way up to captain. On her promotion mission the last of her best friends got ejected and she channeled that grief into killing off those similar in rank to her, romancing the captain (idk if shell kill him yet) and making it back to HQ and getting promoted.

Her mom got eaten by an impostor when she was young so theres a lot of feelings in her early Impostorhood

Lore for my imps killing crewmates is a combo of nature and nurture. Not actually a need, but that's a VERY little known fact among imps and crews alike.

Most imps assume they need to kill crewmates, most crewmates assume all imps are crazy psycho killers for no reason

The unfixable problem with mine isn't what they need to eat. There's no magic nutrient that only exists in crewmates.

trailer animation and death animation shows clear fangs and also clearly shows that the actual method of the death itself is the application of teh acid... the acid isn't an after thing (also shows a more flexible green forked tongue, as opposed to the red tongue strong and sharp enough to stab with)... the implication/assumption for previous bodies is that the imp eats half then makes a run for it... but eating something that's currently disolving from acid seems... unhealthy and unlikely (even if you ARE protected from it yourself. which is possible/likely in the biological sense)... the viper doesn't eat it's victim... it straight up kills and tries to disappear, hoping the remains are not found in time. this imp isn't killing for food.
