#Targetting priority

so, I for one am fully appreciative of the whole no targeted thing, it makes it a nice casual chill fun experience. BUT, there should be away to specify targets. for e.g with a full squad..

1 = Swat > Focus runners > all.
2 = Tank > focus exploders > all.
3 = Engineer > focus bosses > all.
4 = Lara Croft > Focus bosses > all.

If you could set priorities, this would allow FAR greater customisation and depth as you change/mix up which char focusses what etc.

(Somebody else mentioned this on steam, I take 0 credit for it :P just a solid idea!)

Thank you for the suggestions, we'll be working with this idea and see how it works for the game. Currently, there are some priorities already implemented in the demo, such as rocket launcher targeting groups of zombies & sniper rifle aiming to shoot as many enemies in a straight line as possible.

Instead of a complex targeting system, why not allow the player to take manual control of just the team leader''s shooting? So, for example, if I have Tank as my leader, and SWAT and Engineer, the SWAT and Engineer continue to auto-target like normal, but I can choose to control where the Tank shoots with these controls:
RMB = Take Control/Give Control toggle.
LMB = Hold to fire at cursor location.

Then we have the ability to control part of our squad as if we are the team leader, but also the auto-targeting and semi-random nature of the other 2 members is still intact. It would also feel great to land effective shotgun attacks directly into groups instead of a single lone zombie.

You need an input for shooting though.

So, if it's just 1 button, you take control, but what do you use to shoot? Because clicking that again is going to revert control.

You don't choose when to shoot, they continue to auto fire when a Zed is in range, but in the direction of your choosing. This also keeps personal aim from being the obvious better option, since it would allow you to fire something like the Tank shotgun when no zeds are in range, but you can see them. That would effectively allow you to increase its range, instead of just letting you prioritize a running zed coming at you

I know. I'm suggesting taking control of leader allows you to aim and shoot as you please.

#

It's true you can fire off screen. So, timing the bullet out would be a way to balance that. Although, with the way the game will likely scale, it's unlikely it will be a big problem.

True. Possibly just a two different playstyles type deal

My suggestion would be most effective using Tank to put his shotgun in groups better or using a longer range weapon to hit a further target.

#

Or simply ensuring DPS on a boss.

#

Plus, it gives you something to tinker with.

They can always be tweaked. They currently are very goofy because they often kill some random zombie instead of shooting through the crowd or aiming for a boss. In fact, boss aim preference could be a nice boost for sniper type weapons.

I definitely agree with that point. That's why I think the best middle ground would be point where you want, but the gun fires within the same range. That would let you target the crowds, target the boss, whatever the weapon requires, but not be a huge boost to precision damage weapons by being able to aim far outside their auto-range.

Also would give more strategy to your build, if you want to pick someone with a sniper type later on to focus bosses, or pick something like tank for crowd control
