hi! i'm getting my leopard gecko in may from a breeder :) we are both in the uk and the leopard gecko will be delivered via courier. when i was rereading the care instructions that the breeder sent over one of the points said:

"Place on top of the enclosure for 2 hours when arriving at home in the carry home
container before releasing into cold side of enclosure."

I was just curious as to why i would want to wait two hours before letting her into the vivarium? is it just to let her calm down after the trip or something? i was going to go back and ask but just thought I'd get some other opinions as well :)

Nta to my knowledge you do not need to do that lol, it may just be a pet peeve of the breeders but personally i have never heard about this being done or necessary.

Which breeder are you buying from by chance?

Good Breeder Criteria

While I can't provide a definitive list of good breeders since the topic is a lot more subjective than bad breeders and will depend heavily on location and interests, I'll try to outline some things here that'll help you differentiate between a good and bad breeder.

A good breeder will
-Ensure the health of each individual
-Be able to provide the genetic & age info of each individual
-Be able to answer questions about care & won't recommend harmful or overly minimalistic practices
-Avoid breeding problem morphs
-Avoid breeding unhealthy individuals
-Avoid breeding individuals that regularly produce unhealthy or deformed babies
-Avoid breeding individuals that have shown severe stress or health concerns during past breeding attempts
-Keep all animals in appropriate enclosures, particularly the animals being kept long term (aka the breeders)
-Avoid selling animals when too small or young (ex: making sure a baby snake eats a certain number of consecutive meals before selling
-Have good reviews (Facebook, MorphMarket, FaunaClassifieds, etc.)
-Know how to ship safely & follow all shipping laws
-Follow all wildlife laws and guidelines (ex: cannot send certain species to certain states)
-Communicate readily
