Got a text from this guy asking why his leopard gecko was losing weight and wall surfing.
I asked to see the tank set up and he sends this over.
Now obviously this set up is just a problem in itself. I’m trying to organize my thoughts so I can try and urge him to fix it but I want to make sure I get everything down
So far off the top of my head I be_tiktok2tears intend on telling him to get another hide + a a humid one, replace the carpet for topsoil substrate, and adding clutter such as bark, rocks, driftwood etc…

Am I missing anything?

Nta so he should not be using lose substrate right now until he gets all other husbandry up to date. Unfortunately ANY lose substrate even proper, can be a health risk if other needs aren't met. I would tell him to remove the carpet and put paper towels down instead, they are clean, sanitary and easy to clean.

Adding clutter is definitely a good thing, and i would recommend telling him to move both domes onto the hot side for a proper gradient (if one of those are uvb, have him turn it off since it would likely be a coil uvb and those are not proper to use)

You can also forward him the server careguide to read! And if he can, invite him to the server 🩷

Good thing is the enclosure looks like a 40gal atleast from eye view so if that's the case he wont have to upgrade! You can also show some pictures from our enclosure inspo channel!

Nta i would also tell him that if his gecko loses 10% visible weight, its time for a vet to make sure there isn't anything internal going on or parasites.
