#Curiosity about former owner/tail

So I doubt anyone here can tell me but I got my baby from Roller Ventures. I am wholly assuming they treat their reptiles poorly based off of my baby but. I really wanted to ask about his tail. I know when they drop they grow back different but his hasn't dropped it just is different? The vet could not confidently tell me if it was scarring or what (i may be looking another vet anyway) but I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to why my geckos tail may be like that? And also along with that some behavioral questions.

I know he's a new leo and they're shy I don't expect to see him but he doesn't cryptic bask, doesn't move at all. he will find the smallest darkest corner of his hides (both hot and cold side) and stay there for the entire day. He's not taking any vitamins at all and since he's not moving around the tank I know he's not getting water much either.

Weve been doing every other/every 3 day soaks to help with a potential impaction but even with that I feel like that has mostly moved/working its way out. The area that felt like an issue no longer feels like an issue. I've been keeping an eye out for poop.

I can just tell this baby was probably treated poorly and I want to help him and just know what's going on. Is it winter moodiness? Is he not used to good temps and it's overwhelming? Even then he doesn't even try to wander around at night or anything 😭 I think he's afraid there's gonna be another leo in there.

Anyway enough rambling. I'll attach some photos and hopefully we can get some help going!!!

NTA One of my geckos had tail rot and it looked like that but at the very end of the tail. Her tail tip dropped and now she has a nub. This looks a lot like it by the color and texture but I can't be sure with the fuzzy picture.

Usually that happens when their enclosure wasn't cleaned properly and the injury became infected. (My Leo with the rot tail was actually given up and I was going to rehome them before I realized they needed medical attention. They are thriving now)

I highly suggest that you see another vet, especially if it has a solid texture. That's a sign of rot.

#

NTA When feeding, dust them with the calcium and vitamins but always leave a little dish for them to lick for extra (Some geckos will lick if they need a boost. I like to mix mine and all my Leos would lick their dish. Idk if yours would)

Naturally they will be shy, my girlie who had rot tail took a couple of months to warm up and even say hello to me.

For the winter. My babies are acting more closeted but I'm not sure if it's because of the season. They usually are active.

It sounds like to me that you have a Leo that needs gentle parenting and loads of patience. Maybe soak them a little less often since they can be spooked by it and the constant handling. Make sure the enclosure is spiffy and it's ok to encourage them to explore by using feed or after handling, placing them in a different spot.

I'm not sure now this little one would cope, but I know you got this. love_frog

I'm not a vet and I'm only going off from the experience I've had with my Leos. I do HIGHLY suggest you visit a different vet and get another set of eyes on them. They probably can catch something the other didn't. (Be sure to read the reviews too. They can reveal a lot. I was hella lucky to have a vet near me who immediately knew what was going on with them. Even when they act healthy. The reviews solidified my visit and it was 200$ well spent)

oh absolutely and thank you! i went to a vet that was a both standard and exotics and they didn't really.... have much in mind for help and I am 99% sure they killed my last gecko so. I did a bunch of research and found an exotics only vet near me that has really decent (for exotics) pricing and i'm planning to take him there. They just require the appt deposit to make the appt 😭 And I didn't have it rn, but I'm talking to my partner to get it covered and get him in

here is another better look at his tail

Can you take a picture of under the tail? I saw the spot there.

NQA I've done a search on Leo tails and when they're dropped. It doesn't really look like them but all Leos regrow their tails differently. Most look like turnips and some are really smooth with no rings but that's what I've seen.

None of my Geckos have dropped their whole tails either and I honestly don't want them to.

#

-# I have to say I love the pattern of the button up

Oh yeah! He has what I assume is a bite there. I asked the former breeder and they said he was probably bit by his female (i'm thinking he was just housed with others in general) and that's a scab that has formed over the problem. I've been keeping it clean with a diluted chlorahexidine solution to ensure it doesn't get infected but when he did see the one vet they agreed it was just scabbing. Happy to try and get another pic!!!!

I'm just curious as to why his tail has such a weird texture to begin with. You can see in that image it's not the same like texture as a standard gecko tail, it has a lot of weird bumps, some non textured parts at all

I'm wondering if they're more local or a regional thing. Bc their phone number isn't the area code for my area, and i'm kinda curious if they travel often with them and how they're traveling
