#Crested Gecko lighting/Heating

thats the first thing to look at before considering heating since cresties are heat sensitive and so overdoing it can harm them
in an adult tank, you can do a 2.4% arcadia arboreal shadedweller
This is the size of the tank
And I’m customizing it more
Sorry I didn’t get a notification you responded here
i cant tell if thats 12x12x18 or 18x18x24
I believe it’s a 18x18x24
and are you getting an adult or juvenile
youre gonna need to br careful with that
cresties under 12g need to be housed in grow out tanks so they can properly find food
I will contact the breeder
They said it’s a perfect size for a baby up until a year
He does more than just breeding
But yeah I get what u mean
It’s not much bigger than what she’s in right now
their job is to breed ethically and provide proper genetic info but baby cresties are really too small to be in a tank that size + be kept track of
especially during quarantine
When he sent me pics he also sent me a size on the tank
It is a 12x12x18
And yeah, I understand that.
They’re an entire reptile shop, have their own pets, and they’re all crazy about them. He wants check ups until two months and whatnot.
So I was kind of hoping they’d care about such things (?)
So what would you recommend?
12x12x18 will suffice for a gecko that age
Alrighty
but this also means you shouldnt have heating yet
you can start adding heating once they move to their adult tank
What if it will be too cold?
the current minimum is 18x18x36in but id recommend wider
24x18x36 is a good size
you can probably run a uvb on the tank, thatll give some ambient warmth
but an overhead bulb on a thermostat will be very dimmed which means youll be replacing them a lot
I don’t mind having to replace a bulb
Genuinely
like a ton of times?
its a waste
even the lowest wattage wont be running at even half capacity in my experience
its safer/more wallet friendly to use the warmth from uvb or led
If it keeps her enclosure a proper temp and gives her what she needs in my poorly insulated house yes
Okay I don’t mind getting a uvb as I’ll have to at some point anyways
Lowest wattage being 5 or 20?
im just saying that if a uvb will keep the temps good then you dont need to spend all that money on heat bulbs thatll blow
ive only seen them going as low as 25
I already bought a thermostat for her enclosure encase and if worst comes to worst I will order another herpstat
Ah well there are 5w nano basking bulbs
which brand
because i know exoterra has a 5w nano bulb but its not a heat bulb, its an led
their nano basking is still 25w
Your pet will love this Exo Terra Infrared LED Reptile Basking Spot, Nano, 5-watts: https://www.chewy.com/exo-terra-infrared-led-reptile/dp/892022?utm_source=app-share&utm_campaign=892022
Yeah this one is the led
But it wasn’t exoterra
id just double check to make sure its actually a heat bulb
True true
But yeah idm if I need it I need it
It’s lowkey my responsibility to make sure the girl is comfy if I’m homing her
And I’d rather be careful than not
So even if it’s not on all the time
I’d like it to have encase it NEEDS to be on
Ykw I mean? Idk I might be an anxious mom
Anyways
So you think a UVB will be fine
Any hygrometer you’d recommend?
Or a thermometer
And I’m guessing still a 2.4 shade dweller?
its very common practice yea
and yes
same ones for leos
Thank you
