So I know I posted this a while ago, and it ended up being springtails. But I found some new bugs her in her tank and I'm freaking the fuck out. They're too small to even get pictures of. And there's a LOT of them, deep underneath the substrate. Any ideas what it could be? They almost looked like crickets with long antennae, but they were extremely small. Like smaller than a grain of rice and a dark brown sort of color.

are they sorta round

I had this issue with my pet toad a few years back, but the bugs were a lot smaller and climbed on him. They aren't climbing on Mango though

It was so hard to tell

outer flume
#

do you use topsoil?

steel escarp
#

I do, top soil and dirt. Do you think it's something from the top soil?

outer flume
#

could be soil mites. they aren't harmful 😮

steel escarp
#

It would make sense considering I just added more to her tank recently and this did not happen previously

steel escarp
#

Just so I can look those ones up and double check

outer flume
#

one example of a soil mite :o!

#

it could also be another natural springtail

#

in terms of harmful stuff nothing that i know of that could possibly come from like. the soil. besides ig maybe aggressive ants? but

steel escarp
#

Yeah definitely not ants which is good

steel escarp
#

I looked up dark springtails and saw this. This is sorta what it looked like

outer flume
#

might just be a native springtail then!

steel escarp
#

But extremely small and moved very fast/jumped around

outer flume
#

oh

#

then def spring haha

#

those are common with topsoil bags

steel escarp
#

Ohhh ok good to know that it probably isn't harmful. Small bugs just trigger me really bad so I am really anxious about it LOL

outer flume
#

you're good!

steel escarp
#

Do you know how I could keep it from happening in the future? I know you can bake/freeze the top soil

#

But idek how I'd do that considering how much substrate her tank needs

outer flume
#

if you don't want any cuc then yeh you can freeze it

#

springtails just eat mold and fungus in the tank so 😮

steel escarp
#

ok I'll do that in the future then, we have a big freezer chest downstairs

steel escarp
#

Do they breed a lot?

outer flume
#

😭 they will breed yeh

steel escarp
#

o

outer flume
#

that's sorta their thing lmfao

steel escarp
#

Yeah I saw so many so that makes sense

#

Thank u so much peachy
