Crickets are smelly

I keep my crickets in a decent size cricket keeper with ventilation on the lid. They are put in my closet which doesn't give much ventilation to the rest of my room.

Regardless, the crickets smell so bad and idk what to do about it. Would substrate help? If so I have some spare dirt and sand that I could mix together. Do I need to take out dead ones every single day? Suggestions not mentioned above are welcome. Thanks

yes, substrate would help, and yes you do need to clear dead ones and frass every day

tbh i do not take care of them at all and they do not stink i feed them sweet potatos and keep them on rice i use plastic hides only like pots where i drill holes
