#What UVB should I use for this and any plant or log recommendations?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i am not at all versed in uvb, but for plants and clutter i highly recommend neherp for getting cork bark as well as thats where i got my peperomia plants from! a lot of my own wood is foraged, thats always a good option when youre looking for sticks and rocks
Tyyy
no problem! also just so you have it, theres a !plants command here :)

Cacti with spines or glochids
Crassula spp. / Jades
Euphorbia spp.
Ficus spp. / Figs
Kalanchoe
Sago Palm
Tradescantia
but youll want more substrate first! youll want 4-6 inches (of soil especially if youre doing live plants)
Can I keep a lucky bamboo with my gecko?
they are in the supervision species, so they can, its just a matter of watching to make sure no leaves are eaten! with supervision species i also reccomend you feed in a different area of that tank
Okk!!
since youre new to the server, i do want to ask a couple more questions if thats alright? :0
Ok!!
especially as your status says new gecko, how long have you had them?
7-8 years
ok good! in that case, i may be missing it but i dont see a probe in your tank- do you have your heat on a thermostat? especially as i see theres two domes
I have three thermometers
so in that case thermometers and thermostats are different things! thermometers are a tool to read the temperature, thermostats control it. youll want to get all heat sources on a thermostat as soon as you can, theyre very important both to ensure the safety of your gecko, but also your home. if budget is a concern, theres cheap ones on the !shoppinglist ! the bn-link one works well and is tested to be reliable
I can’t find it, maybe I’m just being dumb
no no youre good, here!
So if I got it what temp should I set it to since I’m using an 100 watt? Also should I turn it off during the night?
i have mine set to 94! it takes a little bit of experimenting though since it depends a lot on your rooms environment.
all lights should be off for night time, yes! its important for their circadian rhythm to have their lights 12h on, 12h off, as well as a drop in temperature at night is normal for them! as long as it stays above 65f at night then youre perfect, if it drops below 65 then you will need to get supplemental nighttime heating, like a ceramic heat emitter (lightless heat for night)
Ok! I think my house is typically around 65 F
most homes do, so its just something to look for just in case :)
Do have a 100 watt bulb?
?
I’m only asking cause I have a 100 watt bulb and I’m curious if you think it’s safe
an 100w is alright yeah! thats actually what i use because i need a higher watt to get the proper temps. typically though we reccomend you start with a 75 since that will be enough for most people, but not always! however especially with a higher wattage its very important to have it on a thermostat like the one i linked
If I connect it then would I set it to 94 give or take? But isn’t that for temp
essentially, youd set it so that your !tempgradient is like the one here!
92 is a perfect place to start :)
for me i have it set a little higher for the same reason i use an 100w
But wouldn’t the wattage be below 100 if I set it to 92-94?
oh, wattage doesnt equal temperature! wattage is just the strength of the bulb
the point of the thermostat is to turn the bulb off when it gets above the set temperature, for leos that should be 92ish, then turn it back on automatically once the temp drops a little
Ohhhh sorry
no no youre good! im happy to answer and help with any confusion HSHSH
So will it turn it off when it gets above that or do I?
it will do it automatically!
Ohhh ok!!! Tyyy and then at night I turn it off manually
exactly yeah! i do recommend a timer so that you have the day/night cycle at a set time, but the thermostat should 100% be first priority :)
just to check, have you read through the !guide ? :0
its so nice to see people doing their best for their little ones :) i know when i joined my own husbandry was a decade outdated HSHSH
My care was horrible for a long time
when I had leos as a child it was too
best thing to do now is to do what we can to make sure its better :)
Mhm!
I still should probably add more soil
I have more soil but I mean cause it’s like an inch rn
yeah it should be 4-6 :) leos like to dig sometimes

Do they come with bulbs, I assume they do?
the arcadia does, i imagine the zoomed does as well
I believe I found it on Amazon, is this the same thing
i believe so but im not positive
Could that work?
that is entirely too strong, its important to get one of the uvbs that were sent to you
I’m sorry I’m just trying to find ones that work but are cheaper since I’m tempted to get the zoomed but I also want to see if I can find cheaper ones that work
unfortunately those are the only options that work with your tank
its alright to wait and save for them! but its important that you get one of those, because too strong will burn your leo
