#weird thing

I keep forgetting she’s small and I can’t just help her in the same way I would with my dog or ball python
i’m sorry
and I think i’m gonna give her away
unless you guys know what this is
also she has this blob on her eye that I tried to temove but pushed it under her eyelid
why were you pulling at her skin?
also her foot looks odd
I really don’t know I thoughr it was a twig and I tried to remove it
please don't try and get near their eye yourself. that needs vet attention
in general, you should not be picking or pulling at anything on the gecko (or really any animal). and also that- eye issues are not something you do at home.
was the eye thing something that recently popped up after?
I don’t know what to do
I never noticed because you guys said to stop handling her
I was moreso asking if it was something the vets noticed prior or not
which was answered before i hit send apologies
so i'm assuming yes it's something that sprung up after or the vet missed it
OH MY GODDD I THINK SHE HAS ANOTHER THING IN HER OTHER EYE
I don’t wanna give her 50 diff meds at once!!!
ugh i’m so scared
vet missed it
got worse when she started taking mouthrot meds it seemed
and then these other problems arose
what is the eye stuff
and can it also be medicated
i'm not sure what it is as i'm not a medical professional and we can't make diagnosis or treatments here. qvq
but i'm assuming yes it can be treated. would just need the vet to tell you how / treat it.
do uromastyx have as many health problems as leos?
I don’t think I can take care of her and I don’t know why because i’m trying
uromastyx need big enclosures with extremely high heat. but health issues can happen to any animal. it's not just leos.
all of the stuff you're dealing with can happen to any reptile
what have I done wrong then I don’t understand
I feel horrible that i’m just torturing her and idek it
even properly bred ones can get issues and get sick sometimes. it's not necessairly your fault.
is she saveable
are you okay with going over your current husbandry with me?
can I get her healthy?
can you send me a picture of your current tank setup to begin with?
I am improving the feeding schedule rn
she eats dubias and mealworms with the whole every 4 feedings mulgivatimins and the other 3 are d3 calcium
i may be a bit slow to reply but i will reply and send questions for you to answer as quick as i can.
do you know what uvb you have for her? it looks like a longer fixture so it's either the 2.5% shadedweller max, or one of the t5 HO series.
it’s the one you guys have told me a while ago
using the chart
your humid hide should be more towards the middle instead of on one side. supplement wise you still need a pure calcium.
so don’t worry abt that
I do you guys said d3 is better if they have uvb
i am gonna worry about it because incorrect uvb can be part of health issues.
no we didn't.
well someone who is qa gave me the correct one
I am just trying to double check everything.
the one before the vets gave me was too bright
so I changed it according to yalls instructions
i understand! again i just want to go over everything so we can ensure it's not husbandyr related.
ok
can you look on the bulb for me and see what it says?
Okay so it is one of the ones I thought! Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a higher output one is all!
my husbandry was poor before I joined the server but I think it’s mainly ok now thanks to yall
so I think it’s a me issue
The shadweller max shares a size with one’s that are too high for leos so that’s why I wanted to double check
Your heat lamp is on a thermostat correct?
what is a thermostat
is that the temperature checker
I don’t know the correct names for machines I just call them what they do
A thermostat is a device that you plug into your heat lamp to regulate and control it
A thermometer is what checks the temps
oh the controller thingy
yeah
So the thing next to my gecko here is a thermometer
yeah
And this big thing is a thermostat
can you send a pic of the one you have?
yeh most don't LOL. i have a big expensive one
mainly asking because I don't see the probe for it in the tank on the hot side where it should be
it looks like this
fuck
my dimmer doesn’t just dim it tho
you'd just get this one and you're good :3 super cheap but reliable
it changes the temperature
that's part of what dimming does
it limits how much power the bulb is getting in turn changing temps and stuff. it doesn't set a temp or regulate it fully though
like this
your husbandry overall sounds fine other than missing a thermostat, the pure calcium in the diet and moving the humid hide to the middle.
it may just be that she's predisposed to things due to genetics or may just be battling a few things that were there prior but not caught.
why the thermostat?
because without it you cannot truely know if your heat lamp is the correct temperature.
and it's a fire and safety hazard to not have one
an ok
dimmers can only do so much. the bulb can still short and get way too hot resulting in fires or burns.
thermostats are a failsafe to protect us and our animals
i’m confused abt this timer thing tho
what is that i’ve never seen that in my life
It’s just a wall timer
does it go on the outlet?
Very common household thing
Yeh
It has outlets for lights and stuff on it
BN-LINK 7 Day Heavy Duty Digital Programmable Timer -This timers for electrical outlets can control your system every day, every several days, or several times per day! The timer allows up to 8 on/off times per day, a one (1) minute minimum "on" time, and different settings for different days. Th...
why is the timer needed
the caucasian rhythm thing?
or however you call it
I forgot
circadian rhythm HSHSH
Yes but also to make it easier on you
oh what does caucasian mean then
So you do not have to get up and constantly turn them on and off
That means white
Like a white person

omg😭😭
ok great
imma move the humid hide rn
the caucasus mountains go through countries leos are from so close enough i guess
I did it
I will say especially as there is both an eye issue and what looks like a cut you should absolutely switch to paper towel substrate. its extremely important to keep both of those concerns clean especially with the unknown cause
ok noted
how exactly would I remove the sub
or could I just put paper towels over top
take everything out for now then take the sub out and put everything else back in, then you can just keep the sub in a trash bag or something for later! but for now you really want to take it out
how do I take it out
the sub
i use cups and stuff to scoop it out!
can I just put paper towels over top of the sub
that negates the purpose of putting it there at all
wdym
how
purpose of putting what there
towels or sub?
its not sanitary if the dirt is still there especially when that leo is known for digging
unfortunately there isn't an easy way to do it, the dirt just needs to be taken out for now
ahh ok
the scarw ent away tho!!!
I think it was just a stubborn twig
not a scar
I will still change sub tho
guys
trash bag tho
my mom thinks it could mold
will it
it shouldnt that i know of
and why is the towel just being added on top a bad idea
because bacteria can travel between that easily especially if you mist, not to mention your leo likes to dig and could easily find a way under which then negates the point alltogether as well
what if she didn’t dig
tho
would it be ok or still no
that doesnt negate the bacteria concern. like i mentioned, theres no way to cheat it, you just have to take the dirt out and clean the tank
ok I will
so do you guys know what this is or no
we can’t diagnose anything over the internet
i would call your vet and try to send them the pic or describe what’s happening
no one here is a certified exotics vet and even if someone was, we still wouldn’t be allowed to make a diagnosis on the internet
nice! now just to minitor her health and take her to the vet about her eye :)
is it ok if I hold the eye stuff of until her mouth antibiotics are finished
I don’t wanna give her multiple meds at once
especially when it comes to something like an eye i do not recommend waiting or worst case scenario you risk blindness
your vet will be able to advise you on combinations of meds & wouldn't prescribe anything that would be dangerous, assuming you take the leo to the same vet they would know what the leo is already taking & at what dosage (and u can always remind them)
she’s had the eye thing for a while now
my mom thinks the mouthrot antibiotics would already fix the eye stuff tho
how come that’s not true
Nqa but i don't think mouth rot has anything to do with the eye--
those are entirely different concerns
that’s what I told her
she thinks all antibiotics for infections would be the same
there's not a guarantee the treatment for that will even be an antibiotic and that's also just incorrect all antibiotics target differently
vitamin A deficiency can cause both eye and mouth issues
seeing them happen together should be a warning flag for supplementation
^knowing this does not replace a vet visit as vitamin A deficiency takes a long time to correct and may not even be the cause of the conditions happening at once
@hasty lake are you using a multivitamin?
Ooh
thank you for telling me this-- Definitely storing this information...
yes
I am
I was using too much I almosy thought
however
I was using those vitamins for around 12 months and didn’t know they didn’t last forever
so that could be it
she won’t eat today
prob due to stress from hab change?
ill just skip a day that’s ok right
yeah skipping a single meal is rarely a concern!
