just noticed this yesterday and got him out to get a better look in the daylight. I don’t remember him having this brownish hue skin patch before so im a little concerned about this. just need some advice on what this might be and what to do about it if it is a genuine issue
#skin change in leopard gecko- should I be worried?

it looks kinda crispy to me. could you tell me bout your multivitamin usage and uvb?
uvb/tank size and brand specifically
I use Arcadia mv+d3 powder about once or twice a month (every fourth feed)
Lemme check my purchases for the uvb
I don’t have a mesh top so the uvb is attached to the tank ceiling (18” tall tank)
Lamp is Arcadia 6% 22inch/55cm long 24w
I had the lamp replaced in January
okay so theres your problem
youre internally mounting a high wattage bulb in an 18in tall tank
your leo is getting much more uv exposure than their recommended index so the patch youre seeing could be a burn
the 6% arcadia is recommended for ferg zone 2 species and is stronger than the 7% shadedweller
so for now id remove your uvb and look into getting the arcadia 2.5% shadedweller if you need to internally mount
until you have the new uvb you can just supplement a bit more often with the d3
oh okay thank you!
I had a suspicion it was the bulb, I tried following what I thought was the correct guidelines but sometimes it’s hard to work out what’s right
Do I need to treat his burn in any way
Also im seeing 2.4% arboreal and 2.5 shadedweller max is there a difference
did you follow our server guidelines or arcadia's?
for the burn i would just wait for the next shed and keep an eye out for sores and inflammation
as it is, it'll be fine but if you see any changes for the worse you should book a vet appointment
the 2.4 is a low wattage, 12 inch bulb. the output is fairly low and is meant for animals a few inches from the bulb. the 2.5, while not much higher in percentage, is a higher wattage and longer bulb. this means the stronger uv points of the bulb are extended/cover more space. uv bulbs strength goes highest to lowest from the center of the tube outward
server guidelines
I see!
One more thing should I get a 12” bulb or 22” or does it not matter so long as the % is correct?
Btw I think my confusion with the server guidelines is that I got the height/distance from basking spot wrong? Idk I remember trying to calculate it accurately before buying a replacement but I must’ve misread something
i was a bit confused because we dont rec the 6% on our guideline chart so i did some digging on your previous posts here. so the zoomed 5.0 and arcadia 6% are interchangeable i see youve found out, the difference in output comes from the brands fixture itself. which is why we have one recced and not the other. arcadia has higher output reflectors (the shiny part in the fixture) than zoomed. and it appears you have the arcadia fixture since zoomeds isnt able to be mounted. i saw you say it was 30-35cm away in a previous post and with the arcadia fixture thats actually a 2.9-3.7 uvi, which is going into ferguson zone 3 and leos are zone 1
omg you did the research… that’s so kind of you
i co-made the chart here so the last thing i want is confusion from members here on uv. its very complicated to many to understand
I appreciate you explaining it to me tbh! so long as I’ve got it right from now on, im happy
I’ve turned his light off and the new 2.5% should be here in a couple days
the 2.5 max, what xia recced, is only in a 22 inch!
it might be good to let the issue recover before turning on a new bulb, but i will pop a message to the other QA with more vet nerdy brains to see if they agree with that
thank you! Tbh he will have at least 2-3 days no light while I wait for it anyhow
Just checking this is 100% correct and will be okay for him
the 2.5 max is great for your setup needs yes, i cant tell from the pic if you got the fixture for that bulb as well but you would also need that. reason being- if your current fixture is the one for the 24w HO 6%, it can cause overheating and bulb longevity issues from the bulb being overdriven. unfortunately its not similar like it is with heat bulb fixtures where the fixture can be rated significantly higher in wattage than the bulb
also clarified w others they agreed to let the issue heal for a bit!
just had a look through my old orders, I got the fixture some months before the bulb replacement
This is the fixture + bulb I got (before i replaced the bulb in January)
quick question- are there any opinions on arcadia’s new lumenize lamps vs regular ones?
#helpful-resources message
thank you!!
Good news- the new lamp is set up with the new fixture! Are these one 12 month or 6 month lifespans?
12 unless you have a solar meter to read the uvi then likely longer haha
