I am upgrading my 3 year old leo to an exo terra large low here soon. She currently has a ceramic heat emitter set on a thermostat. I've been hearing that halogen bulbs are the way to go. Any recommendations for specific bulbs? The cage I am looking at is 36" x 18" x 12". I need to upgrade her UVB setup for that size cage, but that's just a matter of getting a longer bulb fixture. Are there any specific brands or wattages I should be looking for with halogen heat bulbs? USA keeper here.

36x18x12 is too short for heating, lighting, enrichment, and tank care reasons.

I didn't realize there was an Exo Terra Large Wide, I thought it just came in Large Tall and Large Low 😂 She likes to climb for sure, so the Large Wide would be perfect

#

I totally agree that 18" tall is much better

nod it'll allow for more climbing opprotunities, more substrate but also allow for safe distances between uvb and heating

#

as for the uvb on that tank

#

this is a good one for the 36x18x18 exoterra :3

Is arcadia the go to brand for nice lighting nowadays?

for uvb yeh. it and zoomed are the two safe brands

#

heat wise it's 50/50 really. there's a few decent bulbs in the states/canada (the ones i linked for example) so it's not just arcadia nod

With that long of a cage would it also be worth going with a secondary form of heat set on a thermostat, like the ceramic I have, or a mat?

Along with the halogen that is

you would only need a che at night if it drops below 65.

#

otherwise no you do not want or need the whole tank being heated.

Night is really my only worry, but with the handful of reptiles I have there are a few extra mats laying around

36x18x18 is still a very small space all things considered so there still should be a proper gradient nod

#

if you need night time heating the che is preferred as you're wanting to heat the air to atleast 65 if it drops below that. not a surface

all of the heat bulbs i linked btw also need to be on a thermostat (same with a halogen.)
