I recently bought a Leopard gecko from a reptile local shop. Had no idea how young she was and there were several others like her being sold as well, And a few adults being sold. I assumed she was at least a few months old as I'm not experienced enough to base age off of size just by looking at the gecko. I purchased Vacuumed Sealed crickets, and Vacuum sealed assorted mealworms. Along with repti-calcium to dust them with.

Taipan is incredibly small, maybe barely longer than my middle finger. Im worried she will choke on the crickets and mealworms. Should i cut them up after dusting them? are there any alternatives? Advice is very much appreciated.

do you have any live insects?

Not with me now, I was worried those would be even more of a choking hazard

#

I could run tomorrow and get some though.

most live insect feeders will come in sizes small enough for the little dude

i usually feed juvies about 3ish week old crickets and mealworms. its definitely not a choking hazard, just give them a few seconds between each bug they eat

Wow i hadn't even thought of that, Thank you!

we recommend live feeders as staple because you do need to gutload them for max. nutrition and hydration

vacuum sealed feeders are better used as treats :] and since theyre dead, theres actually no guarantee your leo will eat them since dead insects dont really trigger their hunting response

you can try tho!

The vac-sealed crickets i got are basically as big as her head. I tried chopping it up but she had zero interest in it. Ill go to a Pet Supply tomorrow and buy the smaller insects, Thank you very much

i would also recommend you get some multivitamin with no d3 tomorrow

and check whether your repticalcium has d3 or not. if it does, get the one with no d3 and vice versa

#

total you should have 3 bottles

have you been linked our guide yet?

Yes i have, Though i have a tendency to read a few portions of it and squirrel off down a rabbit hole on that portion (ex: Lighting + Substrate) So i look online for two hours on Different Bulbs and substrates and i figure i ended up missing the supplimet part now that im looking.

update : instead of crickets, i attempted to feed her vac-sealed mealworms and it was a big success!

#

she could not get enough of them

#

she ended up eating 3 mealworms (relatively small)

#

Only 2nd day of owning her too!

#

i am so very proud of her
