Firstly I suggest giving this a read, it’s up to date information about leo care
You’re gonna need a 36x18x18 enclosure at least for a leopard gecko!
Great, Thank you

Ofc, when you’re done ask any questions you may have and someone will help you!
would it be appropriate to have the gecko in the temporary 10 gallon for quarantine, then move to a 40 gallon once i get one shipped to me? I made arrangements with a family member with more aquariums than they know what to do with for cheaper than id get at a pet supply store. it'd take maybe a week or less. or should i just wait to get the gecko until then?
Nqa but imo i'd wait to get the 40 gallon. Having to transfer the gecko from tank to tank just causes unnecessary stress and anyway after getting it you are gonna want to not handle it for 2 weeks. Giving the little dude plenty of time to settle in! Plus ten gallon doesn't allow for proper temp gradient at all....
I see
Yeah just wait until you have the enclosure, a 10 gallon is below the surviving minimum so it’d be too small. It’s also better to test the heating and humidity and such before you get the gecko so it’ll just be a smooth transition for him. Nqa
btw Not sure if anyone mentioned but are you by chance getting the leo from a proper breeder? Or a pet store..?
Might be a dumb question, What does Nqa mean?
Not qualified advice

ahhh i see, thank you
Not from a breeder, I was told it'd be better to rescue one that genuinely needs a home, rather than buying one from a petstore or breeder.
Rescuing is good... But keep in mind rescues might need a lot of vet checks which can cost a lot of money. Nqa
I've been looking at https://lizardlighthouse.org/available-for-adoption/ specifically
true..
As sad as it is.... Imo i would buy a leo from a proper breeder to ensure the safety and health of that leo.
As your first gecko, it’s 100% better to buy from an ethical breeder nqa
Vets can cost a lot of money... And that website seemed weird- imo i am nqa by all means ;w;"
Mhm!
They’re all very adorable tho
I understand that
I know its sad to see leos having to be rehomed but for your first leo, and for the sake of not taking a gamble of having hundred of dollars put into vet funds i'd get from a breeder. The setup is already gonna cost a hefty chunk
But we say this bc like kai said the gecko might end up needing expensive vet checks and it’d overall be a bad experience for a first time owner, whereas if you buy from an ethical breeder your guaranteed the health of your leopard gecko and it would be a great experience for you both
nqa
Would you say buying from ethical breeders has a higher price range? I havent exactly looked into breeders near me yet, and dont really know what to expect
I see!
Nope! Some breeders sell pet only leos as low as 40$s :3
and their all so cute! I've snooped around on morph market a few times just to look at all the babies
40-60$ range is what your looking at for pet only leos :3
It'd just break my heart if a gecko passed away on me so unexpectedly, it already breaks my heart to see leos in need of homes, but i can see how it'd be saving myself from heartache and a leo from an inexperienced owner
Oh wow!
yeah.... I understand that, i'd highly recommend getting from a breeder then. That way you are ensured the Health of your leo ❤️
Great, Thank you both very much
Very highly recommended breeder, his lowest gecko rn is only $50
Yw :3 if you have anymore questions feel free to ask!
Awesome!
Though, Isnt knowing the leo's genetics a good thing? Tho its smart to not tell in case of people just adopting for breeding projects
Mhm that's the whole point of pet only leos, they aren't meant for breeding!
that's why their genetics aren't often shared at least not in detail!
nqa
Taking pictures and updating geckos to the website takes a lot of work, so I'm now offering sight unseen geckos for a discounted price. The geckos shipped will be healthy with no special requirements.Colors will usually be basic normals to high yellows, but may vary based on stock on hand. They will be non-albino since albinos can be more sensitiv...
They also have this
For $30-35
Oh the juvies/subadults are $35 and adults and retired breeders are $30
Oooo!
That'd be great
Thanks!
I dont really mind what my leo ends up looking like and its a chunk less than id need to spend so its a win-win
Ofc, glad I could help
it's that much cus it's a live animal lol
i paid like $80 for shipping lololol
went and bought all the supplies + the gecko itself today
