Do I need general lighting, or will just the heat lamp be fine?
i didn't link uvb because it's dependant on the tank you get. so if you get the one i linked i can link you a uvb for it. otherwise :3 that can be sent once you have the tank in possession and can send pics of the tank and it's lid mesh

Could zoo med reptisand, zoo med excavator clay, and regular dirt be a good substrate?
ignore this i was wrong
i would not use excavator clay as a replacement for sand
thats pretty much asking for your substrate to turn into a rock
we recommend it as an additive at 10-20% of the ratio at the very most
