#Lamps timers

Currently my new juvenile leo stays in her cool hide all day
At 20:00 uvb goes off and she often moves to the hot side some time after that (she chose a low tree bark as the hot hide instead of the one I installed for her 😅 )
At 21:00 heat lamp goes off so she has less than one hour of heat lamp (but she stays under the bark, enjoys the remaining heat I guess)
No idea if she explores at night, usually I don't see her anymore when I go to bed, meaning she's back to the cool hide
In the morning there is some light in the room but not in the enclosure, I saw her out once, but usually she's hiding, not checking much though so maybe she wanders a bit
At 09:00 uvb and heat lamps go on and she stays hidden until 20:00+
(uvb is on an on/off timer, heat lamp on a dimming thermostat with night/day temperature goals)

I have the feeling the uvb is too bright for her right now (checked the graph we are at 0.7 UVI all fine) as she doesn't like being seen
I am pondering changing the timers to let her have more heat lamp time without uvb
Like, heat from 08:00 to 22:00 and keep uvb from 09:00 to 20:00, that would give 3 hours of "heat only" instead of the current 1 hour
any thoughts?

you would like a photo or description?

also, leopard geckos aren't really a species you're gonna see out directly under their lamps. they may do it occasionally but they're going to be cryptic basking a lot of the time!

#

i'd like to see a photo!

Arcadia Halogen Heat Lamp E27 100W

thick vector

you probably could go down to the 75w unless it's just really cold in your house and a 75w won't heat your tank. :3

#

the 100w halogen is a hefty ass boy

so she is currently inside the right hide you can see on the front, hasn't come out yet even though there's only ten minutes of heat lamp left 😓

But in terms of the lighting and such. the schedule sounds fine to me.

they know how to thermoregulate themsleves the best

#

if they need heat they'll seek it out

royal dagger

not cold in my house so I will replace the heat lamp with a 75w one

my timing for my lights is similar to yours except my uvb goes off at 19:00 and my heat goes off at 20:00 :3

I'm not expecting her to bask yet, given she's very shy still ^^ was just concerned she was not getting enough heat while hinding so much on the cold side

just trust she knows her body!

#

it can be nerve wrecking for sure especially as a new owner. but they do really know their body best

royal dagger
#

cold side is 21°C-22°C, and stays at that temp all night, so I guess she's fine with it

that's a perfectly fine temp yeh! mine dip to about 20 during the winter here

#

if you can. try making some fun cubby holes / cryptic basking opprotunities on the hot side and see if she uses it more Blush

#

i've found my 3 really enjoy having those sort of places on the hot side

#

Can see how my rocks have little crevices they can peek out of and such
