Whats the bulb? A 75w should be sufficient, however, your house might force you to go higher. You'll need a thermostat.

There are a lot of factors that cause people to have to go to a higher wattage. Your house's temperature is one, but there are more like what tank you have, how the tank is holding heat, etc.
