funnily enough I had the same question the other day! those look like springtails to me
Ah ok! Harmful at all to geckos?
spring tails are cleanup crew actually! they eat mold and shit
oh cool! I wouldnt have a clue lol Ive never done bioactive or looked into it properly
in my experience a lot of topsoil actually just has them in there already, i've got a shit ton in my tank I haven't even had to pay for
Oh fair enough, I personally use earthmix arid good to know they arent harmful to my gecko and are actually a good thing rather than bad lol
Sorry to ping u @glad python but today i noticed some white worms aswell at the bottom of the bowl, they are so tiny that i was unable to take a photo cause my phone just wouldnt focus on it but are these like a different life stage of the spring tails?
<@&443773497429196810> im not qualified to answer that :)
can u show a pic?
I cant, my phone didnt wanna focus on them cause of how small they are
were they floating on top
No they were on the bottom of the bowl
@empty helm ^
<@&443773497429196810> anyone able to help out with this?
only things i could think of are gnat larvae or some sort of nematode (these are common w dart frog tanks and the only reason ik what they are lol) tho i dont have experience w any in water dishes. just overly wet sub
could do some googling on them tho see which looks like what youre talking about. unfortunately i cant help much without a pic
If you can send some more pics that would be helpful.
My first thought is Gordian worm/horsehair worm. Part of the phylum Nematomorpha
However they are usually quite long. They live in insects, and exit through the insect’s cloaca when the insect steps into a puddle or pool of water
@glossy seal do you have insight on this
Hard to tell without a picture honestly. Not impossible for it to be one, but that'd require such a series of events to get it into a feeder insect that then jumped into a water bowl imo 🤔 and agreed, they are usually quite long (but can be smaller)
If you could get a picture or video Maks (or even a drawing if your phone won't focus) that could help in identifying!
