I have the money and space for a 40 gal, i lack approval from the scary parental figures. Im hoping to get some points that i can somehow convince them to drive me to get a tank. They say the tank he has is sufficient and since he is a little guy he doesn't need anything bigger, because he is only a little lizard. I would go get it myself but i lack transport and the bus (i am rambling) wont let ne brinf that on.

so one day i simply brought a 40gal exoterra home without telling her. i dont advise you do this, but if you could emphasize to your parents that this is your animal and you want to do the best for them, that could potentially work

Nqa Good luck convincing your parents and finding a tank. Fwiw if my kid came to me with their own money and wanted to upgrade their pet to a better space, I would be very proud of them. I'm sorry your parents aren't really seeing it that way right now.

I didn't see this in the convo but I was thinking maybe your parents are concerned about fire risk from the lighting or the weight/shakiness of the tank on whatever piece of furniture you are thinking of putting the bigger tank on, and they don't realize that consciously or something? Or maybe they are worried about it blocking a window? Just trying to help you if you're still trying to figure out what their hangup is so you can come to them with a plan.

Fwiw I was resistant to putting a big tank in my kid's small room (and wanted to put it in the living room) because I was worried about the fire risk and the furniture. The way we solved these issues together were taking down some potentially flammable curtains that seemed too close to the lighting and just keeping the blinds, and putting the tank on a used solid wood TV stand that is sturdy and can store all the gecko care items inside. Eventually I also purchased light fixture holders that make the lighting more solid and harder to fall over.

Anyway I really hope your parents agree with you ultimately. Like I said, I think it's great that you want to use your own $ on a pet!!

I was more worried abour a fire risk, but maybe a compromise mihht work. I had them install a fire alarm in my room and thr lights are on a timer but i like to turn them off (just because its constant and helps but if i forgot the timer got me) they think its pointlesd and a waste of time.

i think they view him as a object less then a creature

yeah theres very little risk of fire then if you have a reliable thermostat. heat shuts off immediately once its past your set temp
