hello chat! im coming to you with a serious problem for me. i have been kicked out of my house suddenly, without a plan for my girl moonie and my fellow crestie. i’m thinking of going into a half way house type situation and trying to advocate for them being my emotional support animals. does anybody have any experience?

#

@still hedge can u ping any mods u think could help? <3

we dont really advocate for faking ESA for housing requirements if thats what you are asking because it can just give those who need ESA a bad name. also not even sure if non domesticated animals can be an ESA. but i do hope you figure something out and wish you best of luck

Got any friends or contacts who could take the reptiles in temporarily until your living situation stabilizes? Sorry to hear this is happening to you :(

i would recommend reptile boarding facilities but im not sure exactly how long they’ll be able to board your reptiles

This is a general overview of the laws about service animals, therapy animals, and ESAs.

Regarding species, ESAs are basically limited to things that are legal to own in your state or municipality. But since they are not granted public access and aren’t task trained, ESAs can essentially be any kind of animal or pet

Forgot to send the link whoops

#

There aren’t any statements about what types of animals can and can’t be an ESA. The APA also states any animal can be an ESA.

#

I don’t mean to be argumentative or anything just want to get the correct information out there as i have direct experience with using ESAs as part of my mental health care!

i got the info off the department of housing

#

i assume you need the professional documentation saying why the unique animal is needed

#

perhaps a little harder to explain

Yeah that looks like it to me. You could have a Leo as an ESA but would need specific documentation about why it’s that animal in particular.

that makes sense. i did a little research when someone else had this topic said before and i did see some housing say that certain exotics, i assume the unique ones, can be denied housing accommodations. this was a government website as well for campus housing or something iirc.

#

regardless it does seem slightly more complicated than the typical domesticated household pet for getting that from a professional

Yeah seems like it. The ADA website didn’t even specify animal type lmao
