may i ask if they have 3 separate tanks or if youre keeping them together?

#

@candid zenith gonna ping just in case

candid zenith

Im keeping them together, 2 fem 1 male

carmine rune

gotcha. i would actually advise you separate them as soon as possible. cohabitation comes with a plethora of problems, not limited to fighting and food competition. you may be seeing health complications with your leos for that reason.

and although your male is young, he is still old enough to mate with the females. developing eggs can take a lot out of the body, and overbreeding can take a huge toll.

my parents just got a divorce recently and will be moving out in october, can i keep then together until then? Or is that too long?

carmine rune
#

thats definitely too long. we do have some cheaper options like bin enclosures, but that would require you modify a lid for them

#

im going to see if i can find a tutorial around here. in the mean time, im going to send the server guide here.

it covers the basics of leopard gecko care and should help you on any other changes to make on your enclosure, since i can see that youre using sand as a substrate at the moment.

Thank you!!

^^ theres the guide

#

and this is an example of a bin enclosure. relatively simple to make, and once youve modified the lid, you would be able to use heating (but no uvb)

you did mention that your leos are looking a bit skinny as well. if you dont mind, could you send a picture of them from the top down so i can help gauge their weight? just wanna check to see how concerning it is, or if they look okay

candid zenith
#

Currently the other one is the same but fatter, because of the eggs i guess, and the male also looks the same, im just really concerned about the tail because its supposed to be chubby right??

carmine rune
#

it does look a bit shriveled to me but shes not all that bad yet. do you feed them all by hand/tongs or just put food in their tank?

candid zenith
#

I put mealworms in the bowl shes laying in in the first picture i send, but i sometimes give them crickets or wax moths by a tong

carmine rune
#

so my theory is that shes not eating as much as the others because they eat all the food before she can

#

i think tong feeding them separately is going to be the better option until you can separate them

#

that way you can ensure everyone is getting food

candid zenith
#

I will definitely try that, so sorry i ask so much questions but what do u recommend like, 3 crickers 2-3 times a week or how many mealworms?

carmine rune
#

no need to apologize, we're here to help as long as you need :]

for a subadult like your male, id recommend as much as he can eat within 15 minutes, once every two days.

and for adults i would generally recommend feeding about 5-8 insects once or twice a week depending on the individual, but giving your albino a bit more than that definitely will not hurt

#

i do also want to reiterate that its really important to separate these guys asap, or even rehome if you need to, because keeping them together for much longer isnt gonna go well, especially now with a male in the mix.

#

im gonna drop this command here as well for you to read up on

Cohabiting

In general, it is likely not a good idea to cohabitate leopard geckos, even just females. While some keepers are currently exploring possible benefits of social interaction between leopard geckos, there is no proven benefit to cohabiting, and they are not generally known as social creatures in the wild, despite there being some accounts of them living in groups.

While there are no benefits, there are definitely hazards. Hazards of cohabiting in general are domination behaviors, food stealing, spatial and thermoregulatory competition, fighting, tail dropping, stress, etc. Cohabiting different sexes comes with even more hazards, such as overbreeding, surprise eggs, and more.

In addition to outright hazards, many people who support cohabiting do so due to misconceptions. Leopard geckos do not have the ability to form strong emotional bonds (make friends), cuddle, or be lonely. People also sometimes separate their geckos and then assume that the adjustment period of each gecko now living in a new situation as the geckos missing each other, which is not the case. 99.9% of people are also cohabiting in much too small of a space. A single leopard gecko should ideally be in a 3x1.5 ft enclosure on it's own, let alone two in a similar or smaller size.

Due to these reasons, it is considered unwise to support cohabiting leopard geckos at this time. Our recommendation to people currently cohabiting is to separate them as soon as possible, whether that be by buying a new enclosure or by rehoming one or more. Please keep responsibly and keep in mind that geckos are incredibly adept at hiding their stress, so you likely wouldn't even know if your gecko was severely stressed.

carmine rune
#

#

hi xiabrine! i was looking for a new enclosure and i found one but is this light fine for a 40x19x19 enlosure??

carmine rune
#

we typically recommend t5 fixtures for uvb

would you mind showing your enclosure? i think it may be helpful for us to help you compile a list of priorities.

im not sure what your financial situation is like, but i think there are more important things to purchase over uvb at the moment

candid zenith
#

im not sure if i'll buy this one though because i might get like a wooden wall, and im trying to get it as cheap as possible ofcourse, but i want the best for my geckos:)

Not to sound rude but why? I can put 2 females together no?

carmine rune
#

no you cannot

#

i mentioned last night, but on top of the mating issue, there is also food competition. thats likely the reason one of your leos is skinnier than the other

candid zenith
#

Okay, i will look into that, thanks!
