#baby crickets in bioactive tank

is this something to be worried about? i have a plethoria of isopods springtails etc that are thriving in here, i have stopped feeding my gecko crickets for the time being and i assume he will be able to just kill off whatever is there? is there really anything to be concerned about as long as i closely monitor?
nqa i would try to remove the crickets if you can, crickets can bite and injure your gecko
right of course i am trying to do that but they are super tiny baby crickets, not many but theyre there
although i have never seen injuries caused by crickets in particular i am aware that they are able to bite. i am unsure if the babies would be able to harm your gecko with how tiny they are
nqa, i had the same issue tbh. i did a substrate change and knocked off all the decor over a trash can and it seemed to wipe out about 80% of them (i had HUNDREDS pop up overnight)
yeah... i agree i have never seen but ive heard of it and it does have me worried 100%
holy moly hundreds?!?
nqa but i’d recommend a sub change, and try to clean off decor. thankfully the ones i missed ended up taking WEEKS to die off, but DID eventually die off with no food or water
damn alright, i was hoping i wouldnt have to do a substrate change but it is what it is
thank you both for your input
i mean, if ur doing a sub change, maybe do paper towels for a week to make sure u got all of them??? i didn’t do it at the time, but i lowkey wish i had to make sure i got all of them
like i said, they took FOREVER to die off. like a month. i don’t know HOW they lived that long.
but ik u have bioactive so maybe ur CUC will get the remainders
god... and im reading online that these pin head crickets can breed as well
holy shit
in the sense that they bite and breed rapidly
yeah.. this is bad
wishing u the best of luck dude
NQA but i’d def do sub change and do paper towels until there’s none left, esp if ur gecko is a beby
hes a giant adult but still this has me worried
that’s probs why i had crickets for a month +. they just kept breeding 😭
yeah im going to do a sub change
best of luck dude, keep us updated 😭😂
😎
do you all think that my plants will be transferrable? just ordered the 40 gallon terra sahara kit again from the biodude 😦
nqa maybe just shake them off?? rinse them??? should be fine tho id THINK. but heavily not QA
yeah thats what im thinking
i’d give the plants a bath in ur tub if u have one
oh well, lesson learned. usually i feed him one or two at a time and he hunts them but clearly there were a few that got loose that i didnt realize and he didnt get to that caused this. now i know either hand feeding or if crickets im feeding outside of the tank lolol
just to drown the crickets.
tbh, i’ve forgone crickets at this point. if doing crickets, u really should maim them (break their legs) so they can’t hop.
yeah at this point i think its time to switch nearly entirely to dubia roaches
there’s a feeder chart in the guide, i typically do dubias, mealies, supers, and horn worms, occasionally BSFL if i can find nice looking ones.
ive been doing dubia crickets wax and horn for treats
usually my gecko slime refuses most worms
stinky Slime refusing his meals.
lol when he went bioactive he refused to eat for nearly a month and a half
nqa, but also how much are u feeding/how often??? adult crickets left in a cage will def gang up on a gecko to bite and attack lol
DAMN. i had a single hunger strike among my three geckos over the last 6ish months, and it was literally my gravid girl stopped eating for 2 weeks.
hes only eating once a week but has not eaten crickets in two weeks, it must have only been two because im pretty good with only dropping in 1 at a time while he eats them then getting the ones he doesnt eat
yeah this was his first hunger strike
its possible he was eating isopods in passing
PFFT little floor snacks
yeah idk i really dont think so because both my dwarf white and orange koi isopods are thriving
sadly new populations will need to be started
😦
some local spot has them cheap thankfully, a lot cheaper than online
i’m sorry 😭😭😭 it sucks having to redo tanks, i had to do a bunch of solo tank moving today and my back is HURTING.
yeah it sucks, i just changed to bioactive as of 4/8! i just did this!!!!
oh well, i made a mistake in the beginning it is what it is
AWWWWWWW NO
NQA well, maybe switch to roaches over crickets, they’re a LOT easier to tong feed to ur geck baby
i use soft tipped tongs to make sure my folks mouths don’t get hurt haha
yup, ive slowly got him hooked on dubia roaches thankfully and hes seemed to be enjoying those more recently than crickets anyways
i wouldn’t really be worried with injury to leo unless your leo is sick and lethargic its fairly uncommon for them to have ability to bite that hard haha. id be more worried about the stress of dozens of baby crickets all over the place
but yeah i agree w sub change. could try to lure them out with some food like carrots or something first tho
ive had a few stray crickets here and there and thats what ive done
great idea, im going to leave a carrot out overnight in the basking spot which is where they seem to be hanging out. it seems like there may be at most 10-20 (at least that i can see) throughout the 40 gallon breeder
