I'm completely new to owning a leopard gecko and my lil gecko has been a bit off lately, I'm wondering wether it's just me panicking because I'm new to having a gecko or wether something is off... Any help? 😭 I've added photos but i just wanted to check if it's just poop or an infection... The redness worries me a bit so I'd appreciate any input. Thank you 🙏
#Poop or infection?

Nqa looks like a infection but we can’t really tell without the vet. So I would make an appointment with your exotic vet !vet

It looks like he’s got some poop stuck in his cloaca, which is a symptom of underlying issues. I also recommend setting up an appointment with an exotic vet to figure out what could be causing this problem.
A soak in some warm water (not too hot) can help him push out the rest for some relief in the meantime
I was also gonna suggest that also but I didn’t wanna over step
Ok, thank you all 😭🙏
Doing the water soak right now. Just wondering, what sort of underlying issues could it be? Is this because of mistreatment? Sorry for so many questions. Thank you
There can be a few underlying problems, one being malnutrition. A malnourished gecko can have difficulty with normal body functions. If he wasn’t getting overhead heating before that can also be a factor if he was housed incorrectly.
You just got him recently, right?
I got him in November, he's young but he recently went through a phase of not eating right. I just recently was able to fatten it up with maxworms and mealworms rather than the locust i was overusing. I've been calcium mixing it more recently but i was a bit stupid and wasn't calcium coating the locust. Is that the source of the problem? I've got an overhead red light bulb and a uvb light...7% I'm pretty sure
red lights arent good for them unfortunately we have a !shoppinglist that you could grab one off from (sorry to jump in lol)
Google Docs
also unsure if youve read the !guide or not :,)
Oh my god.... I need to buy so many different things. Thank you
No, thank you for jumping in. I'll change the light out. No colored. Right?
yep! no colored, i use a arcadia floodlight but halogen also works fine!
Great, I'll get to it. Thank you so much!
of course!
@formal stirrup if he doesn’t pass feces in the next few hours with a gentle soak, I would recommend getting emergency veterinary care for your gecko. I don’t like how the tissue of the cloaca looks.
Ok, is this a life threatening issue?
it can turn into one
If the tissue of the cloaca becomes too damaged, it may die or become infected. I’m making this recommendation because quick intervention will prevent tissue death. This prevents irreparable damage to the cloaca
