ive heard that keeping feeder insects in unsanitary conditions is also a cause for parasites in the feeders n i was wondering how yall upkeep them? i just got a new shipment of bsfl, mealies, and hornworms (my girls wont eat roaches 🥹!) and id like to start fresh

the previous batch of hornworms got gunky really fast (the food turned rlly dark brown) and the mealworms/bsfl started smelling bad after a while (yes i was taking out the carrots/what they didnt eat after 24 hrs)

and should i keep the substrate that the bsfl and mealworms come in?

tips r appreciated!

i usually keep mealworms in a container with fresh oats

even when not keeping a colony

ty!! i’ll switch out the substrate then

i keep the mealies in the fridge for a day then take them out for 24 hrs, gutload them, then feed them the next day, then back into the fridge

i was putting the hornworms in the fridge because they still like. lived after i did that but lmk if thats not good for them
