#How to make a perminate version of this hide?

People put multi vitamin in their geckos water? I give them a multivitamin calcium and he did eat in there recently so maybe?
sorry i dont think i explained properly
to determine whether it is your multivitamin that is turning the paper towel red, you can place a little bit of multivitamin on paper towel and add water to it
if it turns red = mystery solved
people do not add multivit to their geckos water haha
oh interesting…
Yeah I tried to look into it and the only thing that came up was someone who had the same thing happen with their ball python. They also never got an answer 😭
it should not be leaking red . The moss that is
Ok it HAS to be the lid, there's legit nothing else! Lil Lady's moist hide has the same thing going on!
Because of the hide always being damp to some degree, the color of the lid must some how get its excess red taken from it and settles at the bottom where the paper towel can fully absorb it?
huh that is so strange
Extremely
Is the lid exposed to the uvb or anything in the tanks
Nope, I don't have uv set up for them yet and they aren't under direct light. Though my room is very hot due to 4 heat lamps, summer, and no air conditioning. So it could be a combination of the humidity in it and the heat?
I wonder if you have horrible moss
i feel like tupperware dishes have to be dye leak proof if they’re food grade
so im kinda doubtful thats what it is
Hm I was wondering if the lid may have become fucky cus of the uvb but if you don’t have any :/
Maybe, I only got it to hold moisture for my snail until I got peat moss. I figured I might as well use it for their moist hides
could you test the moss by laying a wet clump on paper towel outside the tank?
I really feel like it might be the moss
Why would the moss be leaking red dye tho…
I’ve seen people use that brand here too so
it really shouldn't be
At this rate it couldn't hurt. Since Lil Lady doesn't use hers as often I could also take the lid and put it water for a while.
but I think id test it just to make sure 100% yknow
like if it's not the moss then that's great
if it is, then we've all learned something
im so invested in this
That valid
please keep us updated if you test the moss lol 😭
this looks a lil similar ..? and i know that there is such a thing as red sphag moss, maybe something got mixed up? the staining looks like it’s def from the moss itself , there’s even red residue left on it , looks like it leaked out with the moisture
Yeah but I'm pretty sure that's only sphagnum moss that's still alive. Something about high light levels or something allowing living sphagnum to turn shades of orange to red
Welp unfortunately nothing has happened and I have failed several times in recreating what has caused this red stuff
It also hasn't reappeared in anyone's moist hides
Oh wait nope the stuff appeared on my hand after checking Lil'Lady's hide. Which meeaaaans Peachy must be right! It's probably a combination of the wetness and the heat in the tank causing the the dye to leak
Which uh
Probably means you should be wary of McCormick Tupperware
@elfin merlin sorry that I’m late coming into this, but the other thing that this could be is Serratia marcescens bacteria
Here’s some I cultured a few years ago
It grows in a lot of municipal water systems
Yeah it’s pretty bright
It would make sense with how alive it looked when it originally showed up. It looked kinda gelatinous but I didn't wanna touch it ><
How to make a perminate version of this hide?
You could've just created a new post or put the question in btw
Oh my goodness the message didn't send last night ><
I forgot how to do that so I just changed the title and attempted to send an image of the hide and explanation why but discord just gave up ig
That's okay
How would I make a permanent version of this hide? She seems really attached to it and acted really unusual for the week I had the old one out to make this one.
you could recreate it with wood i assume
