Hi everyone, I rescued a 3 year old leo recently from a coworker. He had him in a tiny tank (I’d say 10g, 15 at most) and all the wrong substrate and food, etc. I haven’t had one since I was a kid, and that was really my parents’ responsibility so I don’t remember much about their care other than what I’ve read recently through a lot of research, including plenty from the care guide on the reddit page.
He’s now in a top soil/play sand mix substrate and I got him some new hides, sphagnum moss for his humid hide, proper heating & there is a bit of a gradient in temp and humidity from side to side of the tank, but I don’t want to keep him in there. I have a 20g on hand but would rather get him in a 40g from the get if that’s what he needs in the long run. My concerns are these: he has MBD (I’m doing repashy, calcium on all food, UVB tube light, etc) and is pretty weak/moves around by wiggling/dragging so I don’t know how well he would get around a bigger setup with proper clutter and hides; also, will this big increase in enclosure startle him? I only got him in the last 2 weeks so I hope he continues to get stronger with the calcium and everything, but I don’t know how to tell when he’s ready for that.
Thank you for any and all advice!!!

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking too. You don’t think he’ll get overwhelmed or anything with such a big change?
As long as you have a lot of hides and places for him to sleep, he’ll be fine
nqa stress is inevitable with any changes you make but in the long run, that enclosure will be so much better than previous.
make sure the enclosure you go for is 36x18x18 or larger as gallon measurements can vary in dimensions.
im also going to link you to the server care guide to answer anymore questions on basic husbandry
