Hi guys, I posted this on Reddit but was just curious- my dude has waxy pores rn and his hemipenes are kinda big, but I don’t think they have any sperm? I upped the humidity to his tank to see if he’ll deal with it, and also I heard that it’s breeding season for these guys, so is this normal? Thanks. He has no other issues and I do health checks on him once every three days.

usually pores will get more active during breeding season but a soak in warm water can help loosen up any buildup

nqa most females tend to have much smaller pores. my older male had very small hemipenal bulges and they’re supposed to be tucked away so you shouldn’t really be able to fish the hemipenes out to confirm sex that way and even if you could you really shouldn’t. Imo nqa at first glance the dark spots look like pigment (mentioning this bc I was concerned about my female who randomly generated a butthole spot) but with the info given a vet checkup should be scheduled, don’t mess with that area too much by yourself

I decided to go back through old pics of his butt that I’ve taken (I’m not weird I promise) and they’ve always been there. Should I give him a soak tonight anyways since his pores are still waxy?
Further context, he’s a wild caught (I didn’t know until after I bought him I’m sorry) boi so maybe his patterning is different

probably, nqa again upping the humidity too much can cause respiratory infections. give him a sauna and go from there! if they’re still waxy and swollen afterwards I’d call a vet for advice

I think the person I got him from is called sun fire exotics. He was a baby when I got him June of last year at about 5 inches head to tail!!

After the soak will he remove them on his own or should I massage the area with a qtip? I’ve seen conflicting answers
I also know that my enclosure currently isn’t the best for him since it’s too small so maybe that’s contributing
I owe people a fair amount of money but this pay period I’ll see what I can do (;v;)

as long as the leo is in a better place imo it doesn’t have to perfect straight out the gate. you have room and time to improve as long as he’s safe and not stressed (nqa for this entire convo)

He is pretty relaxed, in the time I’ve had him he’s gone from being super skittish to super chill :)
