so it’s been three months since my gecko has eaten regularly she had one super worm at the beginning of this month i did take her to the vet and he told me to syringe feed her repashy grub pie every three to four days and just said that geckos will just go off food i tried dubia roach crickets meal worms wax worms super worms giant meal worms and horn worms and nothing right before she stopped eating i switched her from a heat rock to a ceramic heat emitter i also got a male gecko that is housed in a separate tank he is set right next to her though but i put up white paper on the tank so she can’t see him idk if she can still sense he’s there i’m kinda just at a lost at what to do

#

this is her current tank set up idk if something should be changed

#

this is also her belly idk if it’s possible for her to have eggs although the vet didn’t think it was likely

#

i should also add that the vet didn’t test her for parasites?

her body condition doesn't look horrible- what's your heating setup like? 😮

silk warren
#

ceramic heat emitter right now

#

she’s still using the bathroom just not as frequently

#

it's possible it's a heat related issue maybe? CHE's aren't good for basking and really only good for keeping the air temps warm at night if it drops below 65f in your room / tank as they are diffuse heating and IR-C only

#

she doesn't seem to have a proper basking spot or a good heat source so 😮

silk warren
#

yeah i really only wanted to use it because my room gets really cold at night and that’s the only thing i’ve been able to use to keep the temp up

#

what else should i use?

#

and even before when i definitely wasn’t using a proper heat source which was a rock she was eating fine

so during the day you should be using a halogen or incandescent basking bulb. and then the CHE only for the night. That way she is getting proper basking level heat and such during the day.

Basking spot wise some flat slate or flagstone rock instead of the half log.

Geckos also sometimes just go on strikes for awhile. A healthy adult can go a long time without eating as long as their body condition is good and they aren't rapidly losing weight

#

this may also help

silk warren
#

could you send a link to a bulb i should be using during the day?

simple ginkgo
#

i can! your heat source is on a thermostat currently correct?

#

i don't see the probe so thought i would ask

silk warren
#

yeah

#

and would it get too hot during the day because that’s the other thing during the day my room gets really hot and during the nighttime it gets really cold

simple ginkgo
#

!shoppinglist any of these

silk warren
#

would a halogen or basking bulb be better?

simple ginkgo
# silk warren yeah

They need a basking spot of 94-100 during the day, and air temps of 70-77 on the cool side and 86-92 on the hotside. (summer has been making a lot of our tanks hotter so as long as there is a gradient it's okay!)

It depends on your setup and such!
Both work, i personally prefer the basking bulbs because they have a softer and wider beam then a halogen so it heats up more on my geckos basking spots! but both are good.

#

proper heating is super important for metabolism and digestion

silk warren
#

okay thank you

#

and is it possible she would just prefer the rock?

simple ginkgo
#

wym the rock

#

like the ones i mentioned?

#

or a heat rock / the ones that plug in

silk warren
#

i used to use a heat rock and when i switched the the ceramic heat emitter that’s when the problems started happening

simple ginkgo
#

no

silk warren
#

yes

simple ginkgo
#

do not

#

Those are extremely dangerous and inefficent

#

proper overhead heating is the best heating option.

#

so the halogen or basking bulb.

A bit more on the heatrock thing but do not use that again /gen
