My new leo has been having some trouble with his poos ever since I got him. He only poops about once a week, and when he does it is loose and smelly. He has a very good apetite and is eating supplemented crickets. His urates look fine, very white and solid, but the feces part is concerning. I plan to consult a veterinarian but it would be good to get an idea of what I'm dealing with. Thanks!

Hey! I would ask your vet if you can dose him with a probiotic, and also ask if you can bring in a fecal sample to see if parasites are throwing his system off.
Leopard Geckos do naturally have a bioload of parasites, but stress can interfere with their immune system and can cause the amount of parasites a gecko has to become a bit overwhelming for them.
understood! I got him checked out by a local vivarium manager who said it's nothing too concerning yet but keep an eye on it. The plan is if it keeps up for another two weeks I'll go get him tested for parasites and infections.
What's a vivarium manager? /Gen
the manager of the vivarium I adopted my gecko from 🙂 It's a local reptile exhibit where you can purchase some of the animals they have on display. The manager is responsible for the care of all of the animals there and he seems to know his stuff. That being said I'm still looking for vet options now to make a checkup appointment with a licensed vet
Ah yeah, I would definitely still see a vet! I wouldn't trust a breeder, pet shop owner, or anybody else with medical stuff other than a licensed vet
update: I adjusted his feeding schedule and he is producing healthy poops regularly now! Thanks for your kind input : )
