Bro is monching
Nqa, but do you have a kitchen scale with which you can weigh him?
no but if it’s important for me to have one i can get one asap to attempt to weigh him, i just started trying to handle him a couple days ago so he’s still a bit shy around me
yeah he looks like 2 😦 but i got him at petco :/ (bad i know) but i think i can help him gain his weight
From what I've seen here, it's good to keep track of their weight each week*
*(Not sure how frequently people are weighing)

Again, NQA but since you just got him, just focus on having him eat a varied diet and make sure he's making progress with weight
do you have a top down picture of him
It's not like you've been starving him or anything, it was PetSmart being icky
the video doesn't really help me at all help you figure out if he's healthy or not. We need a top down picture
from the video though i can tell he's younger
i can try and get one for you when i’m home
NQA looks fine to me. Hes definely not 2 years old, hes still got baby stripes. Id look at the server guide since youre new here and look at the substrate options since you got him on the 6th which is last week, youi should have him on paper towels. and id get the top down pic as peachy is asking
!guide
okay thank you
they weren't saying he's 2 years old lol
they were saying he looks like 2 on the chart
lol
but back to the weight thing. he's a juvenile and often times they are twiggy and small.
def give the server careguide a read and compare your current husbandry to it though as it has up to date care information and is backed by science
petstores sadly do not have updated care information and a lot of the time (not all the time. some workers know proper info) they give wrong info :C so
yeah, thank you all so much for helping me
i did just want to mention the urgency to change substrate to paper towels! the substrate you currently have looks like walnut shells which are not the greatest especially if ingested as they can tear up their insides. leos do use their tongue to get a better sense of their surroundings so id try to change that asap to keep the lil one safe!
it’s just sand, but i understand the urgency regardless. i will change his substrate to paper towels when i get home. how long until i could put him on reptisoil mixed with reptisand?
Whenever bringing a new animal into your home, you should quarantine it. The main difference between a quarantine setup and a normal set up is substrate. A paper towel substrate should be used. This allows for the tank to be easily cleaned and for you to monitor poops easier. A quarantine setup should be just as cluttered as a normal setup. Quarantine should last for 60-90 days to ensure the animal is heathy before moving it to a setup with loose substrate. Additionally, when first bringing the animal home and when moving tanks or making large changes, handling should be avoided for two weeks. Reptiles do not get enjoyment out of handling, they tolerate it. Not handling for two weeks will avoid adding stress to an already stressful time. Their entire world has changed which takes an adjustment period.
he has ate a little bit of sand i think but he should be fine?
i can’t tell if he did or not but i saw sand on his face
NQA probably, just monitor the poops
yeah he’s been pooping just fine
ah yeah
as a note, proper substrate with soil & sand should only be given after quarantine yes but also when heating is following that of the guide with an incandescent bulb, basking spot of mid-upper 90s, & warm side ambients upper 80s-lower 90s :)
itll aid in proper digestion which will help if they lick the substrate up!
he has uvb & basking lamp during the day with a ceramic heat emitter at night because the part of washington i live in is too cold for him at night
top view photo sorry it’s a lil dark
I’d say they just look like a normal baby
