I got my Leo about 3/4 days ago and I think that he’s around 1 or 2 months old. He’s always in his humid hide and he barely eats. He’ll sometimes eat like 1 mealworm but rarely more than two meanworks a day. Now it might be because he’s stressed or I might not have the right food for him. I’ll see if I can get crickets and see if he’ll eat those but I’m js worried abt my little guy yk

Sometimes leos can be reluctant to eat when you first get them, it's stressful being in an entirely new environment. I had trouble getting mine to eat initially, and she would also stay in her humid hide because that's where she felt safest. That's good you're able to get him to eat mealworms at least. You can try different feeders and see if those are more interesting to him too.
K, I think that he used to eat crickets before so I’ll see if he’ll eat those
Thanks for helping me though, I was getting a little worried abt my little guy
Yeah!! I asked the breeder I got my gecko from what she used to eat, and how she ate it (bowl fed? tong fed?) and that seemed to help a little. If you know your guy used to eat crickets I'd certainly give that a try.
Well I got him from petsmart but on the way to my house he threw up (I felt really bad for him
I didn’t know why he threw up or how to help him at the time) but it did seem like he ate crickets before so imma give it a try. I might also try tong feeding (he already has a bowl)
just for future reference we would recommend not to buy from large chain stores like petsmart as they source their animals from mills! buying animals directly causes more animals to take their place
Yeah, well if I get a second Leo/any reptile or animal, I won’t get anymore from them
so from my experience of working at petsmart we fed mealworms/ waxworms in bowls. If you got an "fancy one" its an albino and we didnt feed those crickets, but if you got a normal guy we released crickets into the enclosure. NQA alot of animals wont eat first thing when you get them. Tho its important for babys to eat daily imo. if he is eating those mealworms daily thats good, some guys just dont eat alot.
dont feed waxworms tho
Just so you know tango literally took 2 weeks to eat when I first got him so I wouldn't worry to much
Was he a baby when you got him? Js curious
yes
its all store dependent yeah. my store takes the time to tong feed everyone daily on a rotation of supplemented crickets and mealworms w the occasional hornworm.
because if they dont do it i yell at them /hj
prior to me working there they did just release crickets everywhere and we wound up with underweight babies because the crickets hid under the carpet and didn't get eaten
W man. Wish my store actually listened to me at the time. Been trying to convince my current Petco manager to allow me to up the standard for some things
Tbh I might work at petsmart just to get the enclosures correct
Get rid of the repticarpet
And make sure the lil guys actually eat
Doubt you'd be able to go that far lol corporate enforces that stuff. I remember when I worked there we got yelled at for moving the tortoises to the back because the display enclosure was to cold
thats not a thing you can do
Dang
That’s dumb
