When picking a soil for your substrate mix, you want to find organic topsoil. It is worth noting that topsoil is different from potting soil.
In general, the topsoil you use should not have any additives such as fertilizers, manure or perlite/vermiculite. However, there are a select few additives such as charcoal and worm castings that are safe.
You can normally find topsoil in hardware or gardening stores, and if none is available, Reptisoil is a safe alternative.
Be aware that the soils listed in this graphic may have ingredients that vary across regions. Be sure to read the ingredients and labels to ensure they do not have any fertilizer or other harmful additives.

is there one for play sand too?
Play sand should be safe if it's labeled as playsand
ok!
You just need to rinse sand so you get the dust particles off
mhm! tysm ^^
Sakrete or Quikrete are two common playsand brands in the US
They can usually be found in the same stores you'd get the topsoil from too
If you want anyone to double check your play sand though feel free to take a picture and send it to the server
i got scotts top soil and quikrete playsand !
Sounds good
just make sure that there's no fertilizer balls in the Scotts, sometimes topsoil can come with it even if it's not listed on the bag. So it's good to double check
ok! ty !!
another question, how do i measure the top soil and playsand? the percents confuse me ðŸ˜
Its just a ratio
Its not percents
70:30 soil and playsand
So when mixing Its just 7 scoops of soil and 3 scoops of sand
ohh ok ty
Yee
these are the ones i bought, both from home depot NQA
what would happen if i didnt wash the playsand? would it hurt him?
Its dusty
do i have to dry it after
ok!
I suggest the pillow case method :0
Fastest and easiest imo and you loose less sand
Put the sand in the pillow case and run water through till the water gets clear
i did this and put a little bit of the mixture into his tank to see how he reacts. he absolutely loves it!!
