I'm curious to know if there could be a perfect balance of humidity in an enclosure where a Leo would not need a humid hide? Mainly asking as my Leo never uses the hide and has fantastic sheds. Feel like I'm just doing all this work to refresh it but he doesn't care for it. I am in Florida, my house is set to 80 always, my room runs cooler as it only gets morning sun. Humidity stays around 40%-50%
#When would a humid hide be unnecessary?

Humid hides are partially there for the leo to feel secure during sheds as well, so many would benefit from it regardless of the ambient humidity, granted your’s is very successful without it lel. I would watch out for Constant high humidity (40% is the max recommended humidity I’ve heard of) because that can result in respiratory issues or growth of bacteria
He has great sheds, but be careful make sure he can get away from the high humidity and that it isn’t constantly above 40 (probably shouldn’t go too above 40 at all except for moments in day when simulating monsoon season rain & such) & there is good airflow :)
Again,
I keep my ceiling fan on to help with the airflow. The humidity only really gets a bit higher when its suuuuper humid like peak summer outside. I wonder if someone is researching that though? Like how a Leo in a home in Cali would do vs Florida. Would a Cali Leo utilize the humid hide more than one in Florida?
Ya know that’s a good thought, I live in a VERY DRY state and I always see humid hides utilized
Yes! I was in the High Desert in Cali and my hermits and frogs needed a mist DAILY. Here it's every other day. If not weekly for slightly less tropical species. So seeing the drastic change from there to here in Florida has me thinking about this
All I know is it’s a breeze to keep tropical reptiles in florida lell
Woah dang, neat!
Like our desert air even in the home sucks it dry so fast onl
You could keep certain outside given the proper enclosure.
It’s so cool
I do like arid species more so I’m not tooo mad about living here, lell
Know a dude with his chams outside in a huge screen enclosure/patio. Only come in when it freezes which is rare.
Oooh sick, I’ve seen a ton of florida backyard tours of huge reptile enclosures like geez!
Yeah, I keep tortoises and a box turtle outside as well. This humidity has them thriving more than they did in Cali.
Oh frick yea
All I have to look forward to is taking my future pet uromastyx outside for the summer ig lell
Uros are so cool but I couldn't imagine the care. I haven't done too much research but I know they are def not easy.
Feel like I would turn my house into a furnace trying to heat one of those guys up correctly lol
Anyway as long as his humidity isn’t usually above the recommended 30-40% and he sheds fully & comfortably without the hide, you probably don’t need to worry about keeping it more humid than the rest
I would still keep an area of the tank misted when you know he’s shedding, but yeah see how he does without it next shed and you could make something more useful out of the space o.o
Omg yeah, that like 120 basking spot is quite the feat to be made-
replying to you so you see it! Humidity is actually 30-55% now! With higher spikes occasionally being okay as well c:
I have higher humidity as well (during the summers my cool side gets to 55% !) but I still provide the humid hide and really only spray it when they’re getting ready to shed.
Just a cool little tidbit about the humidity in one of the areas they’re from so you can see :0
