My Leo has always loved his hot hide, lately he hasn’t been using it like AT ALL. I’m moving stuff around in my room to get ready for new stuff and so I had to unplug his uvb. He hadn’t gone in it since I got the uvb but now he is sleeping in there, is it possible it is too much for him? I got the 5.0 recommended for albinos

Are you providing enough coverage?

rapid stag
#

It could also be that he just wasn't vibing with the hot hide

hidden dragon
#

There isn’t much coverage around the hot hide

rapid stag
#

they silly creatures who change stuff up all the time

hidden dragon
#

Well, there is none basically

rapid stag
#

could i get a pic of your setup :o?

hidden dragon
#

😭

#

Yes but it’s not good

rapid stag
#

that's fine lol

trim glacier
#

All Leo’s need coverage but albinos need a little extra :) NQA

hidden dragon
#

I promise he has more than one hide they are just covered

rapid stag
#

that looks fine!

#

you could maybe put some cork pieces around the hot hide to make some shade and coverage

trim glacier
#

That looks amazing lol

rapid stag
#

but it could just be he didn't want to use it

#

they thermoregulate themselves and while one hide may be a favorite for awhile

#

they switch it up

hidden dragon
#

Oh ok

trim glacier
#

What size is ur tank? I’m still looking for enclosure inspo

hidden dragon
#

20 long

trim glacier
#

That’s a 20?! It looks like a 40! Impressive with the layout with limited space.. wow

hidden dragon
#

Lol thanks

#

That want how I originally had it, it was much worse

#

I could not ever see him and he was overwhelmed with all of the stuff

trim glacier
#

Ur doing better then me, I’m struggling with my 40

hidden dragon
#

One sec

hidden dragon
#

That’s how I originally had it

trim glacier
#

That's mine 😭😭 it is a work and progress and I don't have the gecko yet but I'm impressed by yours cause damn

hidden dragon
#

He wouldn’t use the middle hide bc I could see in it and it was very messy and u couldn’t eve get to him for feeding

hearty veldt
#

I mean.. if you have a larger tank the gecko should go into a larger tank for its well-being.

hidden dragon
#

Me?

hearty veldt
#

Not using a hide doesn’t mean they’re overwhelmed. It means they just didn’t want to use that hide at that particular time

trim glacier
#

20 gal is the minimum but 40 gallon is highly recommended

hearty veldt
#

My geckos don’t use every hide they have

The bare minimum for a leopard gecko is a 20 gallon long tank (30x12x12 inches/75x30x30cm) or equivalent, which is 360 sq. inches of floor space. Any recommendations for a 10 gallon tank for an adult leopard gecko are outdated and incorrect as a 10 gallon tank is entirely inadequate.

However, we like to recommend an enclosure size of 40 gallons (36x18x18 inches/90x45x45cm) or larger as a better minimum. This size gives your gecko proper room for enrichment, exploration, and a temperature gradient.

No enclosure size is going to be too large for a healthy leopard gecko. We have many members successfully using 4ft (48 inches/120cm) enclosures, and other keepers use up to 6-8 foot (180-245cm) enclosures! The real problem that actually can cause stress is an empty enclosure, not a large one. This problem can even occur in 20 gallon tanks. Barren, open spaces in an enclosure can make your leopard gecko feel unsafe or insecure. Any enclosure size needs to be properly decorated and cluttered to ensure the inhabitant isn't stressed and has good enrichment.

think i read it as you saying you had a 40, but downgraded him to a 20

hidden dragon
#

Lol no

hearty veldt
#

That’s also how I read that

trim glacier
#

Where did yall read that XD

hidden dragon
#

Did I word it wrong?

trim glacier
#

No I don't think so

rapid stag
#

our brains read this part as "i downgraded" LOL

miscommunication happens :)

trim glacier
#

Ohh

#

I see now

#

What I've been told by my parents and by others is if you can't provide proper set up u can't afford the animal

Yes 20 will work for now but 40 is highly recommended closer in the future NQA

hidden dragon
#

I will get a 40 once he is around 1

#

Year

rapid stag
#

I would do it before hand

#

leopard geckos grow pretty fast and 20 gallons are fine temporarily but they don't offer the best for proper temperature gradients and such C:

hidden dragon
#

Rlly? I had no idea they differed with temperature

rapid stag
#

babies can also go directly into 40s with no issues and yeeh the size affects a lot

#

enrichment , temperature gradients, etc

hidden dragon
#

Oh, is there an alteranative to a 40 breeder? I don’t know how wide it is on the sides and I’m afraid it might be too far out sitting where he is nos

trim glacier
#

36"x18"x18"

rapid stag
#

this is crunchy i apologize LOL

trim glacier
#

I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT 😭😭

rapid stag
#

but the dark blue is a 40 gallon / 36x18x18 and the darker reddish purple is a 20 gallon

#

you can see the size difference and how big of a difference it is

hidden dragon
#

Would a 55 work?

rapid stag
#

depends on the floorspace as 55 gallons can be smaller then a 40

#

36x18x18 tanks have a floorspace of 648 sq in C:
