My year old female gecko Bean hasn’t eaten for two weeks now and hasn’t left her wet hide for two weeks. She feels lighter. She did just shed yesterday. She has no interest in any food choices I provide. I will appoint a vet visit if someone can tell me that’s what I need to do, her heat side in her tank is at proper temperatures, as is her cooler side, is this normal or??

Did you just get her?
I got her January 7th last year
I did just add in new substrate and some new decor
Well she’s always been a hiding kinda gecko honestly
She never comes out during the day
And it’s been like that since i got her
I mean I don’t see her at night usually
Really good with handling though
She’s a albino, maybe my light is too bright for her?
Maybe I should try and set up a cam to see if she moves around at night
Or dip her feet in calcium powder to see if she treks throughout the night
I don't really know much, but I had a similar problem with my gecko a while back. She wouldn't eat almost at all for a few weeks so we took her to the vet. It turned out she had parasites and we got her on medicine and syringe fed her for a while and now she's all better :) so I would say definitely talk to a vet (at least call) because better safe than sorry <3
Was she a very hidey gecko?
Also, about how much was the treatment and vet visit? I only have less then thousand usd right now
I get a paycheck next Friday but I need all that for other things that keep me alive
I will work something out of the cost of the vet visit is more then I can handle
But I really want to be atleast 95% sure she isn’t just inactive because of winter or seasonal things
I put paper towels down over her substrate to see if she poops or not
I’ll also leave a few mealworms in a cup in her enclosure over night to see if she eats any
A lot of sources I’m seeing also say it’s quite often for a Leo to go off of food during breeding season/winter
I’ll call the exotic vet to see what they think but I’m hoping it’s just winter changes or something like that
Please someone give me advice of some kind on this 🙏🙏
From a few other sources I can kinda pick up that she’s being nocturnal with her not coming out of her hide during the day.
And maybe she’s lost her appetite because of burmation?
I’ve left 10 mealworms in a escape proof dish in her enclosure to see if she eats any
My other Leo is definitely a night little bugger
you have noticed weightloss?
Maybe she ate the shed nqa
brumation isnt uncommon in winter, and an adult leo only eats about 1-2 times a week so this isnt too much of a strike. however typically you also see reduced activity if any at all as well and no weight loss. if theyre losing weight in two weeks thats very concerning and warrants a vet visit
She definitely doesn’t seem to be losing weight, her skin does seem a little squisher than normal
ah okay, you said she was lighter so that was my concern
I weighed her today and she’s only 1 gram lighter than a weighing I did a month ago, I guess she just felt lighter to me
Nqa looks normal but its on the more yellow side. Could be dehydrated a little
Should I give her a soak?
Or bump the humidity up?
It’s at
34% right now
are you gutloading your feeders? if so with what?
the last time she ate that is
regardless
not really hearing anything too concerning. could just be not eating either due to winter but also due to enclosure changes. the urate being yellow can indicate dehydration among other things but that doesnt shock me too much since she hasnt ate. id keep trying and do a variety of healthy veggie gutloaded feeders like roaches, crickets, mealworms, bsfl, isopods, etc. check the weight occasionally and if it reduces a bit more or if you notice odd poos or lethargy then id get a vet appointment set up. for now you could put a water droplet on her lips see if she licks that up to help w her dehydration while she isnt eating
Somewhere around the 6th of January was her last meal of a few meal worms and crickets
I gut load them both with carrots and romaine lettuce, and I add one of those orange cubes for the crickets and I do some multivitamin powder on the mealworm carrots occasionally
I don’t use lettuce often, only when I have it
She ate
And she moved from her wet hide to the warm hide
I think she just didn’t like the layout of the tank
Thats good :)
This is it now
